There were MANY of us who PTR tested and tried to tell you, Blue. I remember saying that if it went live like this, there would be squealing. Just look at all the posts and bad reviews coming.
I think that, generally, the design is fine going in the slow-it-down direction. Much of it feels about right.
But just like the forgotten souls and rawhides being a grind-out/burn-out bottleneck—the Ancestral gear is blocking a nice flow of progression. It looks like most players are finding themselves having a reasonable amount of engagement until they get T1 “geared”. Then you end up hitting a wall. When depends on the class or build. (If you are playing an overpowered Spiritborn build, this doesn’t apply as much).
Everything starts to feel WAY too grindy.
Ancestral gear already has gatekeepers to keep us from gearing out too fast. Finding the right stats alone can feel too time consuming. (Amulets with the passive rolls +stats at the same time for example). Then getting good rolls on those stats. Then add to it that we want GA on all. Then good rolls on the Tempers. It’s incredibly difficult to get something “perfect”. We don’t need to gatekeep them at a 1 to 100 ratio to regular Legendaries on top of all that. What we want is ALREADY rare. Give us a break. We’ve got a log jam. Bottleneck. Call it what you will.
Not looking for a 3-day race to T4 to be all “purpled out”. But I don’t want to log in and sigh because I don’t have a promise of anything but micro-movements in power for the next several foreseeable weeks either. Yet another pit/horde/dungeon with no way to target reliable Ancestral drops is at the heart of the problem.

I think Undercity was supposed to be an answer to this but the ancestral tribute seems very rare and the good bargains to go with it will cost you tens of millions of gold. The people who trade and have billions of gold probably love the system I guess.

Do torment 4 Helltides / Infernal Hordes. I’ve gotten full ancestral gear already. Half of it two-GA.

…Says the Spiritborn player who can jump right to T4 with crap gear because they are ridiculous right now. We aren’t all playing those, nor want to. T4 isn’t accessible to everyone. It’s supposed to be a longer term goal—so says Blizzard.
You Spiritborners won’t feel the gap as much.
And before some jackass mentions it—yes, we know about the Infernal Horde Cache that gives 1-3 Ancestrals. Who wants to run 10-12 minute intense grind sessions of that for 100 hours.

The drop rate on Ancestral gear does seem too low. Currently running T2 and the only Ancestral
drop i ever get is from IH. Problem there is IH compass drops are also very rare. I can run Pit 45 OK probably could push my minions a little more but since they inherit my stats i still need gear upgrades. I’m not running this season for obvious reasons. Not to mention according to my stat sheet i only have 94 armor. Yeah another bug.

Nice suggestion, Problem is we need a means of getting there. It does no good to keep grinding Pits and IH if the same ole crap keeps dropping.

It’s all about paragon levels in my experience. Grind paragon levels and it will increase your damage more than enough to move up torment tiers. Gear is far less important. If you can land an ancestral weapon for your build and keep your resists / armor at cap moving up to new torment tiers, that’s all you need to do.

Yeah, i can see where that is important and i am working on that. It would just be nice to be able to replace my legacy gear at some point. So i can run higher pits to level my glyph more.
I found leveling glyphs to be a fantastic sorce of dmg increases as well. I waited to long to upgrade my glyphs. I prob could have been in T4 within a couple of days instead of 4.

you don’t need ancestral gear for t4.
you need to balance offence and defence hand in hand.
yes i,m a spiritborn but im crushing hand one.
wich seems like we speed like mad monkey throwing tantrum everywhere, but i am far from be full ancestral.
you just need to think differently, i’m starting a ww barb next.
t4 give more xp and gold and require more off/defence in harmony.

The worst part about it is that max rank Aspects are gated behind ancestrals. It’s incredibly hard to fill out the codex now, and it feels bad knowing that we’re weaker than we should be because of it.
That alongside the ridiculous paragon grind is making me want to just stick to Eternal after this season…

That can be difficult with out good gear. The higher the torment the lower your Armor and all resist. Right now with legacy gear @T2 my armor is 94. No armor no physical resistance. Not as easy as you make it out to be.
A bit rare seemingly but acceptable IMO
About the same rate as Uniques
There’s like 70% chance that you get one or the other in Realmwalker’s event chest or Pit reward or IH’s Greater loot chest (this one is 100% I think)
It’s not as often on HTs as it used to be though - which is fine cause HT’s got a different purpose in mat gathering, and
There are 3 other events better for gearing
Hahaha…I hope you come back and revisit your statments on this post after that experience! Spiritborn to WW barb will be an eye opener!
Just remember, all you need to do is balance offense and defense!

I’m in T2 and I feel like I get just the right amount of ancestrals. I use two currently which I’m very happy with, and non-ancestrals aren’t obsolete yet.
Edit: That’s four ancestrals actually, just that in two of them I have enchanted GA away.

with Scroll of Restoration and 200 aether to open a guaranteed Ancestral GA gears, i think is not hard to farm like doing those 6 wave Infernal Hordes.
remember, Infernal Hordes is the main pillar to provide Ancestral GA.

I would enjoy the game way more if these were significantly more common.
The grind should be getting the perfect stats on gear, not the base items for a build. Let’s not forget that maxing aspects is also gated behind ancestrals. There’s also the uniques, I don’t mind grinding for their ancestral versions. There is stuff to do, just don’t be so stingy with base items.
No loot = no fun.

Yes, but that isn’t the problem. The prob is, that items with GAs are dropping WAY too less. I am lvl 242 and still got 750 gear, no matter what I do, nothing drops. I don’t want full 3 GA gear after one week, but I want to see progression.
