Ancestral gear?

I haven’t played D4 in a couple seasons. It used to be in WT4 you got ancestral automatically. I’m in T1 now but not seeing any ancestral gear. Can anyone explain how this works? Is this expected? Are we back to just RNG for ancestral? I don’t get it.

Exactly! Now starting from torment 1 you have a chance to get ancestral gear. We don’t know what that chance is, we don’t know how much it increases with difficulty. It’s now common not being full ancestral gear after playing for 50+ hours or not being able to max aspects.

Enjoy your grinding fellow human.

Well damn. That just killed my will to play. WTF did they do that? Isn’t it hard enough getting the right affixes/rolls on the gear? Now I have to first RNG if it’s even a trash item or not and mostly it’s just all trash??

I was hoping this could keep me semi-occupied until PoE2 next month but that isn’t looking likely. What a bummer this game is.

If you honestly cant handle ga uncommon drop rate PoE2 will have far lower drop rates amd crafting systems more complicated and likely rarer upgrade materials.

Can’t really even compare the two.

Well 2 different target audiences right. D4 is more of a beginner entry into the arpg market.

Not to say PoE2 will be good I reserve my judgement on that one but if its anything like the 1st one 95% of the D4 playerbase will get a rude awakening on what RNG is.

Best way to get Ancestral gear is to run IH. But getting the compasses is a bit rare. Get almost all of mine from the pits.

Also undercity, got a few good pcs there.

Maybe? I don’t know. PoE2 is streamlining some things so while it will likely be “more complicated” than D4 the game is far more interesting IMO and there is a more robust trading system.

Have you played PoE? The whole game is built around trade.

For those wanting to play more of a trade simulator its 100% better. There will also prob be systems that actually “brick” gear.

Regardless ill prob play the campaign at least once. I couldnt imagin playing PoE2 campaign for every single new character made and every single season.

I only played leagues in PoE. But i don’t mind leveling either.

Compasses are rare? Didn’t know that… I have so many piling up in my inventory I had to move them to the chest.

People moaned about being showered with loot and never finding meaningful upgrades. Now that we’re getting meaningful upgrades that quite rightly IMO don’t drop left, right and centre… people still moan.

They would feel rare if you don’t use them often. If you let them pile up without doing the activity your inventory and stash will be full of them.

They need to buff the ancestral gear drop rate, or I’m done this season and playing poe2

The definition of what an ancestral is has changed.
Before it was high item power rank (normal/sacred/ancestral). The ranks are gone now.
Currently a 750 item power non-ancestral is roughly the same thing as old ancestral, while new ancestral means it always has Grand Affixes and +50 item power.

Ancestral gear doesn’t drop much - uniques are more common the ancestral gear nowadays - go figure!!

You should also know that max Aspects is only found on Ancestral gear. It will look like you got a max roll on a non-ancestral item, but that is only the max range for non-ancestral items. If you look in Collections, you can see the true max value on an Aspect.

At a certain point you sort of need ancestral loot as a baseline before you even figure into any crafting or affix RNG or greater affix RNG. If at that point you are still largely getting non-ancestral loot it’s like getting no loot at all because it’s not a base you can even get by on and just because vendor trash which feels pretty bad IMO. But what do I know.

I appreciate this answer. That does sort of explain the reasoning (at least to me because I been out of the D4 loop a while) but it doesn’t really make me feel that much better because IMO it doesn’t make logical sense to waste mats/gold on anything that is a non-ancestral base which sort of breaks down the entire progression to a degree. That said I’m not grinding D4 like a full-time job so maybe it just feels like that for me, Elon and the other 4 job holding dads with 8 wives and 47 children.

That doesn’t even make logical sense. o.O

This is exactly why this system sucks. Once you get to Torment difficulty it no longer makes sense to waste mats/gold on a base that isn’t at least ancestral. Even if the RNG isn’t ideal you want to at least have the best base to justify wasting material and gold.
