AMD Radeon RX Series best practices

When running Diablo IV on Microsoft Windows 11 22H2 with AMD Radeon RX series graphics cards, are there any best practices for driver configurations?

It may be the case that settings need to be modified per driver release, model of graphics card, CPU, and memory, but it would be useful to know if there is consensus on a baseline that generalizes well. Without establishing a baseline, the set of possible interaction effects between in-game settings, the driver, and Adrenalin settings, makes things difficult to debug.

  • For Diablo IV, should users start with the AMD Adrenalin Recommended drivers, Adrenalin Optional drivers, or the PRO drivers?
  • If the Adrenalin Recommended or Optional drivers should be preferred, is a Driver Only, Minimal, or Full install of Adrenalin most useful?
  • If using the Adrenalin software, what game settings should be set for Diablo IV?

As of 2023-08-24T01:00:00Z, I am getting game crashes from a system running with an AMD Radeon RX. I will research that separately, but without a good baseline of basic things such as driver series and Adrenalin settings, it is difficult to debug.

Those drivers you should use by default. If you have problems you may need hotfix drivers or a rollback to an older driver version.

It seems to be a beta driver without WHQL. Just drivers with hotfixes. Less stable, but may help if you need this hotfix.

These are probably for work, the most stable ones, I guess not for gaming. But the most stable ones don’t have the latest fixes you might need.

If you’re not utilizing the features of this software, the less of it the better. The chances of any of the software not working properly are reduced.

This applies to everything: the software and all sorts of customizations and tweaks. The further you are from the minimal and standard use case, the more likely it is that it will be worse tested and you will end up as a beta tester.

Just customize the game to your liking. Some people need responsive controls, others need detail, others need picture clarity, all of which can be opposite settings.
