Who thinks it’s bad to be forced to be a pet class with the merc addition?
To me this is a deal breaker as long as Blizz don’t offer some kind of ghost Merc that is never be seen or interacted with that gives passive bonuses. Like in Van Helsing for example.
I hate pets and I don’t want to be forced to play with one. I always hated that mercs have been madatory like D2 resi shred… not again pretty please! or buff stacking in D3 or sharing dmg and whatnot.
That’s before I even talk about the for my taste ugly class design or about the little content we get for a full game price tag.
So whats the devs stance on this? Are mercs mandatory from an effectiveness standpoint and are there even season centered arround this? If so please shout it from the rooftops and make it clear because then i save my money.
Thanks in advance to everyones oppinion on this (even if most ppl like to be forced into pets/mercs I guess) and possible information I missed.
I am pretty sure having a merc will give you pretty big advantage. If not, people would not care about them so it would be just waste of money for blizz…
I feel you, I like pet classes but I play necro for it… Never liked you have to have pet with every class/build.
I hate the idea that a NPC is running and fighting with me all the time. If i can beat the future stuff without using a merc i definitely wont use a merc.
That’s a very fair point and I think we’ll be able to do the content without mercs. Then again I like the biggest numbers possible and if I can only achive that with mercs it would feel bad to me. On top of it I’m sure we get some “merc” season themed crap seasons where we need to run arround with them sadly.
I would be ok with seasson merc. Not every seasson have to be for everyone. But merc will stay and if you care about effectiveness you would have to use them.
I don’t know if it will be a 100% no-damage merc but I would be surprised not to see some option like this. Both D2 and D3 had merc setups that were more about buffs or cc help than just dealing damage.
And still there would be a merc running arround and interacting.
I stoped playing D2 a long time ago and always hated it to have a merc arround. same for D3 where I didn’t touch them at all outside of season goals. I don’t want the same crap over and over again but more options.
I 100% agree with you. If they do a Book of the Dead type thing where you can sacrifice the merc/minion for personal power in the form of a passive then awesome, sign me up. However if they offer no such perk for running merc free, and the choice ends up being effectively a self nerf, then I’m done. I hate the idea of a sidekick who isn’t another player. It’s the primary reason I skipped season 3. I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels this way!
You’re welcome to your opinion, of course, but prior to this announcement 50% of Diablo games (not counting immortal at all) had mercs; now 75% do. It’s been a part of the series for more than it hasn’t, and yes it sucks if having one would have been a dealbreaker for you on D4 launch but unless you just picked the game up, you’ve probably gotten your money worth. Maybe it’s time to walk away.
In both games so far you didn’t have to use the mercenary and it was certainly possible to play without them without much worry (except maybe some buff-dependent D2 metas.) Unless they are mandatory in D4, you’ll be fine without it. If you’re a min/maxer though you don’t really have a choice. Unfortunately seems you’ll need to pick a lane.
i don’t see how it’s a pet class personally to have a npc with us.
i mean, they auto attack , they handle themselves we have next to no control in most game with what skills they uses etc… (aside from choosing it on a tree i mean)
unlike actual pets on which we can use the active skill on the skill bar, and take up our character’s skills/passives/paragon point to upgrade
also, except D1 , every diablo had mercenaries so…wrong franchise for you buddy if you feel like that.
or simply don’t use them ?
As a “pet enjoyer”, I tell you that just 1 pet is not enough to consider you a pets class (not in this type of game at least).
It’s like thinking that having a clone is being a kind of pet class (AKA, the rogue).
(Now, to be honest, I would love to spam clones and use them as pets)
