Am I the only hydra pyromancer?

hydra got a serious buff.

  • Pyromancy Skill Damage: Increased by ~25%.
  • Non-Physical Damage: Increased by ~25%.
  • Fire Damage: Increased by ~25%.
  • Fire Damage Over Time: Increased by ~40%.
  • Conjuration Skill Damage: Increased by ~33%.
  • Fiery Surge Mana Regeneration increased from 10/20/30% to 15/30/45
  • Hydra Enchantment Mana threshold reduced from 300 to 200.
  • Serpentine Aspect Hydra duration reduction reduced from 30-20% to 20-10%

Did they fix the burning scaling with Mob HP?

  • Fixed an issue where the Burning Instinct power on the Sorcerer Paragon board did not account for Base Critical Damage in its damage calculation.

I play Hydra/Firewall. Haven’t had a chance to see the negative impacts patches usually provide. I did play one legion event and my CC contagion is still working. That’s a plus.

*addition

My play style isn’t focused on cool downs and one hit kills, but rather…what fire offers. A slow, reliable burn.

It’s not a serious buff, but a pretty minor one.

My rogue went from 300% vulnerable to 205, 200 crit damage to 125, and 1000 dex to 605, and you know I still feel like she kills just as fast, just dies faster. So this general buff to all damage types across the board is noticeable. It may end up making more builds more viable and just mean you die even faster, well for sure you will die faster…

Don’t know what this means for Sorc. I leveled every class already, did tons of builds, Sorc felt like it needed the most help, maybe Barb as well, Barb felt horrible to me.

I play hydras. I used to be able to at least survive in NM100, but didn’t manage to complete one due to ambush rooms and invisible assassins and the like killing me in one hit, but I cleared NM99.

The survivability nerf now makes it very hard to survive in any map with hard hitting ranged enemies. In any of the NM98 and NM99 maps I tried, elite ranged killed me in one hit (despite having the 40% reduction) and wraiths killed me in one hit too. I was able to barely survive some of these hits before, but not now.

Now, when it comes to damage, you have to remember that these buffs are on gear affixes only, and it’s additive damage, not multiplicative. If you had an item with +30% Conjuration damage, it now gets +40% Conjuration damage instead.

To really benefit from these buffs, you had to be specced out of the vulnerability and critical damage meta.

My gear is the same as before, and my affixes, despite a lot of them being nerfed, are still better than the alternative ones.

My burning damage went down from 6M or so against elites to 4M or so. There is no buff here. The only positive change is that we get 10% less Hydras duration compared to 20%.

yeah, i just logged in myself and played. got swatted down real hard and couldn’t clear a single elite totally rested. i am 100% pyro and i just can’t stay alive. It really took the fun out of it. how is a hydra going to take down an elite in an immunity bubble? ranged attacks are completely shut down. 2 seconds with flameshield is not even nearly enough time to take it down with fireball or meteor/inferno combos.

and they didn’t improve the group finder. I even tried to group up with a barb so it could draw aggro and no one accepted the random invite. i just logged out.

i guess it’s over.

Nope! I just created a seasonal one. Level 36 rn… I read a post someone wrote about how trash fire sorc are in general. I replied back how wrong he is! I’m using: teleport fire bolt, fireball (as enchantment slot as well), Hydra (as Enchantment Slot as well), firewall, and inferno. My passives are: fiery surge, soul fire, warmth, Esu’s Ferocity, inner flames, devouring blaze, and devastation [not finished with build yet]. I have 3 different combos I use, and I’m sweeping everything. The passive ‘warmth’ has gotta be one of the most powerful passives in the entire game. It looks weak, but when you use it… you just never take damage when there’s large mobs. It’s crazy. Anyone who thinks the fire sorc is weak is an idiot. Hydras, firewall, and fireball are my main sources of damage. And like I said, I have hydras and fireball in my enchantment slots. So I get a second Hydra every time I spend 200 Mana, and also when fireball enchantment procs, it starts a chain reaction and everything just blows up! And this is coming from a traditional Ice Sorceress. That’s my main non-seasonal character. I can’t really say I like one more than the other… my ice Sorc is all about immobilizing enemies and then blasting them with ice shards. With fire sorc, it’s all about wreaking havoc and blasting as much fire damage as possible. With my fire sorc, I died in the early levels a bit, but now my survivability is amazing. I also carefully chose my gear to work with my build which helps with Mana management, mobility, extra burning and fire damage, critical hit chances and hits, cooldowns, life, and armor.

That’s great. glad you are enjoying it. mine was similar but relied on meteor/inferno. it’s good. I tend to run out of mana in the later levels and i can’t do much damage without cooldowns.

i’d be interested how things go for you in W3. I made an ice/flame/electric sorc in seasons. I’ve found that my build relies on affixes and i need more armor. The armor drops give +armor, but the affixes would reduce my current w2 build’s damage. so, either survive and slow down damage, or do damage and pop anytime i get touched. eh, i guess i am just going to do world bosses and legion events until i level and can find the right drops.

I goal is a melee sorc. just stand toe to toe and wreck stuff. but, i just dump my mana and get wrecked.
