Alternate Respec Cost Solution #666

Wow you keep on going. You should not care about others. Don’t be jealous, play your own game, enjoy the content, just like Netflix . You can’t win Netflix by watching more shows or is that the type of conversation you have? “I watched more shows than you, i am better”

Wow. That must have hurt.

They don’t have conversations/ discussions about it.

They cry about it even though there’s nothing wrong.

They state made up nonsense as fact, don’t provide any evidence to backup their stance (because there is none) and reject any actual evidence there is against it (there’s not much, but it is there).

People have only started telling them to stop BECAUSE they keep spamming the same topic on a daily basis. There’s been about half a dozen just today by people that have already posted about it 5 times or so in the past couple of weeks.

The entire discussion is irrelevant because there’s not an issue. And even if there was it would NOT be noticeable until you get to late end game. So nobody has any evidence to even SUGGEST that it might become a problem, but they still keep pushing that is MOST DEFINITELY IS a problem, even though they didn’t have a problem in beta.

In the 2 weekends that i played i made something like 3.5m gold.

A full respec including paragon boards is something like 8 million at level 100.

I did a full respec about 5 times during those 2 weekends, on multiple characters, and still had well over half a million gold at the end.

It is just simply not an issue.

I’d lay odds that 3/4o f the threads would’ve died long ago if not for the people who insist on trying to tell people not to post feedback. But hey, keep giving the threads more attention by whining about people posting feedback you don’t like. No skin off my back if the threads continue to stay on top of the discussion.

Same symptom as people posting twitter hashtags to ‘own the hashtag’ - all you’re doing is giving it more attention, especially since the crux of your argument tends to be ‘I don’t like your feedback don’t post it’ or ‘it didn’t bother me so it shouldn’t bother you’. Neither of which are good arguments against something, certainly not good enough to sway someone reading it from a neutral point of view.

I knew people were going to be dismissive, and that’s fine, but if you want to be willfully ignorant and not read the post at all, your input is worthless and will be ignored. If you want to talk about the topic, we can do that, but if you’re here for no reason but to insult me, feel free to continue insulting me, I could not care less.

I care only for the fact that I want to make the system work for the most number of people. If I could play SSF, I wouldn’t care at all. But that’s not how the game is designed, currently.

Again, the issue is not how much it’s going to cost. There are other factors. I have no doubt that gold will not be an issue in endgame.

All this did was encourage the free respect team to start posting again about how we shouldn’t tell them how to play the game, despite free respecs affecting everyone.

There is no way to balance a game that has free respecs without considering the player might use that system to adapt to whatever challenges you throw at them. Whether or not you think that’s going to happen isn’t relevant. If something is possible in a game, the developers HAVE to balance around it. They don’t pick and choose what to balance.

This problem is already solved. The overreaction to paying a reasonable amount of gold to fix a mistake is being blown out of proportions. Worst case scenario I bet you could farm a full respec in a day. You respec and then go play the new spec for a day and you should be made whole.

You want to make the game fit to your special needs and about 20 others.

Millions of players love trading and do not care if their neighbors have better items than they have. They enjoy the game without any jealousy.

I was originally one of those people. I listened to other people’s concerns and have tried to find a compromise.

If you would read the post, you’d see how my idea handles that.

Solved for some. Other people still have issues with the idea. Particularly with having to farm gold specifically for a respec.
Again, read the post, and then decide if it’s an unreasonable suggestion.

Respec cost proponent here.
I proposed months ago that each player should be able to unlock 1 loadout tab for their character at level 50 after paying for their first full refund of 50 skill points.

The preset tab will allow players to swop between at least 1 alternate build, at a lower cost.

Other than that…most of the debate will disappear when the game launches and players see how it is

There is no problem.

Congratulations. This must be the most terrible idea ive read on this forum. Are you possibly trying to destroy the game? Im serious. WHY TF WOULD ANYONE PLAY A GAME WITH A DEBUFF BECAUSE OF RESPECCING!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Its the most clinically insane thing i have ever heard. Terrible idea. Shame, shame, shame.

This post has nothing to do with trading. I mentioned SSF because the respec system, as currently implemented, could (potentially) affect how the game is balanced.

I intentionally left out the idea of loadouts in the post because it would require a separate post to keep people from compounding the issues. Mainly because I like the idea of loadouts, but would also be fine without them, and it would also start the argument about character swapping, again.

First off, thank you for being the first one to show that they actually read the post. If you seriously want to know why I think a mild debuff with an easy to complete removal requirement is better than a gold tax, I’m willing to discuss it. However, if you’re just here to be dismissive and insulting, just don’t bother to respond.

Ah yes, good point.
You may be right.
I’ve had the loadout discussion and it does spawn a parallel issue of examining new costs and compromise.
However, I do feel that is a good alternative. If nothing changes about the current D4 system, I believe we will still have some problems when players realize that respecing gold cost isn’t the biggest problem.
The problem may be the grind to find the same items to re-equip your shifted build. It’ll get boring to play the same build and irksome to grind to change it (to the extent that may be required).

Blizzard confirmed that more than half the item legendary aspects havent even been shown yet. So that will dilute drop rates, and I dont want Blizzard to up the drop rates either.
So this might become tedious for lack of preset loadouts.

I don’t think you heard. They aren’t changing respeccing before launch.

Sorry…

Yeah, it is a far better system than gold cost.
For those reasons. As well as being a more secure cost vs. gold that risks being invalidated by power creep and gold acquisition rates going crazy.

I would add some lower limit to how fast the buff can be regained, so future power creep wont risk invalidating the system, however.

Also, instead of debuff you need to get rid of, it might feel psychologically better for many players, if it was a buff you build up instead. Result is basically the same, but presentation often matters.

As for balancing, imo the reduction in XP, gold, magic find etc would have to be at minium 50%, and regaining the buff should take 3-5 hours at least.
Otherwise I fear that frequent respeccing will still be the optimal way to play.

To be fair, this is exactly why a system like OPs might be better imo. The gold cost risks being irrelevant.

What if there’s no issues here this isn’t D3 you grind 1 toon for 3 months then try HC next season… sounds like the problem is short lived players here !

Why create such a complicated system that would put players in debt essentially, that affects so many different forms of currency when they are achieving the exact same thing by using just one of the currencies in game. Gold.

This is just a more complicated solution to a system that already exists doing the exact same thing.

The main issue with your argument though is something commonly used on these forums. Disingenuous, false interpretation of how things actually are.

You are not locked out of respeccing. You can use gold.

You’re not stuck with a broken build. You can use gold.

OPs system makes it impossible to go into debt though, or run out of currency for that matter. That is part of its strength vs. gold cost, where you can run out of gold.

It is a fundamentally different approach than using a gold cost.
A price paid in future progress instead of past progress.

If you’re reducing the amount of x currency that you earn with a debuff. Then you are spending time working off this debuff right?

Same as if you’re in debt.

They just repackaged it into “small hourly payments”.

Lets say you have 1 million currency. Then you respec. You still have 1 million currency, you just get new currency at a slower rate for a while.
I dont see how that would be comparable to going into debt. Your savings are never touched in this system.

You don’t consider collecting obols, FoH fragments, any other yet to be determined usable resource or perhaps crafting mats to be “saving them up”?

I disagree.

If I can say: they are forms of currency that you save up.

And this statement is true. Which it is.

Then my analogy is correct.

You’re having to pay off the debuff. It’s just another form of debt wrapped up in a different way.
