Altars of Lilith are BAD

I’d like to thank blizzard for several hours of grueling and boring time that almost made me quit the game.
This is many hours of just riding around to tick a box, no gameplay experience what so ever, at least not to me.
It was not fun at all.

Altars of Lilith are great example of horrible game design, where players who don’t enjoy searching for collectibles are forced into this hunt. Forced because they unlock considerable stat bonuses, and reputation points.

You only have to do it once (I know), one of the few progression mechanics that carry over to your other characters. You (developers) realized it’s bad thing to ask someone to repeat all of that.
You should have asked yourself, is it a good idea to have it in game at all? at least in current form.
You could have done many things here one good example move the rewards to clearing up a fort and just detach bonuses from the egg hunt.

D4 is a large and long game, it could use without time waster like this, or at least make it full optional just for achievement hunters.

I think the issue comes from the amount of them. Like 130 or so? And no way of finding them because the area they could be in is just so damn huge.

Welcome to open world.

THis was the one thing i instantly expressed as a concern when they 1st introduced D4 and that it will be open world. That it will be filled with pointless open world mechanics.
As usual people shrug it off. Now there you all have it.

Don’t get me wrong i very much like this game but there are many things wrong with it. This is one.
But at least they confirmed, you only have to do them once.
Which is from one side: “hallelujah”, from an other side, why does such a mechanic even exist then? If you only HAVE TO do it once.

I think it’s fine. Maybe you should quit or learn not to buy another blizzard game.

You literally do it once and I for one enjoyed finding them in the open world.
I understand those that don’t like having to do it, but once. Come on man.

There are good sites that track them too and you can check them off as you get them and they make your ALTS so powerful from the beginning it is like a different game.

Why should i use a guide? Make the task fun to do.

The concept isn’t terrible. Little easter egg hunt to get bonuses.
The execution was beyond awful.

No one wants to hunt 200 easter eggs down. Not to mention they serve no purpose afterwards. The devs can say it’s for renown but there are plenty better methods and no one wants to re-farm renown anyways.

I think they were this silly concept to get players to explore open world. As if that ever needed encouragement? I dunno, I like roaming without reason. Elder Scrolls does it fine. Just a DOA concept at this point.

In the end they couldn’t even get the main story and side quests to progress together fluidly. From what I recall Bliz is the one who started dumb quest hubs too. How could they fail that so hard?

If you did not like it, considering a presearched map wasn’t and option?

I in contrary decided to search for them, and enjoyed it. After a while you get a good view of spots where “Lilith” would hide them. It took about 2 days of playtime. Meanwhile I moped down some street mobs and gathered a couple of ressources and Xp. It was mostly enjoyable, if you would know in which sub-region the last missing one is.

exactly, make it fun, make it not 130, give some environmental clues.
I’ve played through some great shot games in time that was required to clear this ‘task’.

Altars shouldn’t give powers!
Instead they should give lore bits, information about the world and intrigue me to keep looking for more.

The entire renown system is garbage. I don’t understand pushing power in so outline garbage content, just to show players the world or some idiotic notion. If your world is good, they are going to see it regardless! Let people have cosmetics or some other random unimportant garbage from doing renow, not fn PARAGON POINTS!

Why can’t they give power? There could be books or other hints scattered in town and then you actually would be rewarded for reading lore.

Because it’s dumb. Because you literally forcing players “hey there is free power you can have by clicking these 130 staties, in the middle of nowhere, enjoy exploring”. A lot of players hate being forced into content, they wouldn’t do otherwise. And before you say something like “no one is forcing you”… no, you are literally forced in doing it, because it’s exclusive power, you can’t get otherwise.

Isn’t that the entire game? NM Dungeons for glyphs, etc?

Nightmare Dungeons is the gameloop. Exploration is a 1 off thing. If you don’t want to do Nightmare Dungeons, why would you buy D4?

I don’t want to slay monsters. Why are they forcing me to level up? Stupid argument.

I disagree with the OP. It is a nice way to make you explore the map and discover the amazing D4 landscapes. And you only need to do it once.

Exploration isn’t part of the core gameplay, you dimwit…

Exactly! It’s the same in Dungeons, don’t force me to do silly objectives to progress, encourage me to explore!

I know if i go that way that might be the fastest way to the boss but in this corner of the dungeon might be a event, a rare mob, an elite pack or a treasure goblin.
