Allow couch coop on PC

Why isn’t this allowed? I get that not that many PC players will likely use it, but is there any harm in providing it for those who do want it?

I thought Windows coding and XBox coding was almost identical, so shouldn’t it be easy to provide this feature?

They said they it was because of difficulties on logging in on multiple accounts on PC. Not sure if that’s an excuse, but this feature would probably singlehandedly earn the sale from me.

Yeah, they’d have to rework the launcher to allow multiple accounts to login. Just for a single game. I don’t really see it happening.

Not necessarily. They could also build a bnet logon screen into the game for the second player. And they already have a bnet logon screen in game for if you launch the game while logged out of bnet.

Although maybe there are more back end difficulties with this than are initially apparent.

The game doesn’t have a log in function from what I could see. It automatically launches with your credentials from the launcher, so they’d have to code additional log ins to the battle net launcher, AND add all the console couch co-op control and UI functionality to the PC version of the game. It’s not a super easy thing to change for PC. It would also require only 1 mouse and keyboard and the rest would have to be supported controllers.

Much of this is already done by the console operating systems. Blizzard didn’t have to do it, because XBOX or Playstation already did. It would be a substantial project.

Frankly it’s insulting that they’ve made this feature console exclusive. And they said something along the lines of ‘no one wants to sit around a desk together playing games’. Thanks for discounting my childhood playing D2 alongside my brother blizzard. Real nice.

Not to mention you can play PC games on the couch with a television with essentially trivial ease these days.

I play couch coop games on PC all the time. They think it’s hard to put two chairs in front of a monitor?

keep your console peasant stuff to consoles how are you going co op on a pc MOST pc players play with mouse and keyboard

To be fair it is a programming challenge because of the need for multiple battlenet accounts and the fact that the PC version doesn’t have any of the co-op functionality already built in by Xbox and PlayStation. Blizzard didn’t have to do any of the coding that goes into making consoles multiplayer out of the box. They’d essentially have to build their own console operating system, add that to the PC version and have it run conditionally, add guest log ins to the launcher, and there’s probably way more that I don’t understand. It’s a lot more work than it seems.

i’d rather them fix the pc ui and whole pc system is too console like and dogpiss and seems like they all focused on console port and pc got the scraps and short end of the stick

Yeah but I mean people are asking them to remodel half the characters in the game. Asking them to slightly modify their own battle.net client isn’t a big thing. They don’t have to get on to Microsoft and ask them to add simultaneous log on of multiple user accounts…

It’s not just slightly modifying the launcher. They don’t have co-op functionality in the PC version. They’d have to build all of that themselves. Xbox and PlayStation have their own proprietary frameworks for console. Blizzard would have to build their own.

i find it poitntless to co op play on a pc engine chnages rebuilding code and all that plus clunky chair and pc set ups etc

Not everyone’s PC setups are clunky and the coding hurdle is tiny. Many games offer coop on PC these days. Many indie titles…

keep the console peasant controller stuff on consoles

No one is going to break in your house and steal your keyboard man, chill. Let people live the way they want. If Blizzard decides to tackle the PC co-op issue and more people play on controllers, you can feel even more superior, it’s a win for you too.

Is it the people with PCs connected to their TVs and comfortable office chairs that can seamlessly transition from mouse and keyboard at the desk to controller on the TV when they want to play with their friends and family, or the guy who’s proud of his uncomfortable desk setup who is a peasant?

I get the bit about guest logon not existing and having to build that. That is something that doesn’t exist and would have to be built, no question.

But I don’t buy the argument about coop functionality not existing on PC. XBox coding and Windows coding are nearly identical. Once they have the guest logon functionality built, all they have to do is reuse the XBox coop functionality on the PC.

That assumes the Xbox functionality doesn’t belong to Xbox, or PlayStation. If I had to guess, I’d say that Blizzard can’t just steal their console framework and slap it into the PC version of the game. They’d have to build their own.

Personally, I’d prefer not. Hey! leave them PC’s alone!
