In Diablo the pre-made characters were premade, because they were people in that universe. There weren’t bajillion warriors, there was THE warrior. We all got to play THE Warrior.

D4 is probably the same. There is just more variation in how THE warrior looks.
Similarly you can change Gerald’s hair in Witcher 3, but he is still a specific character in the game world.

Seems fine to me that some aspects of a character is defined while others are not.
