"All your skills are X skills"

Spiritborn got this amazing enabling function in their class to make any skill work with the type you want to build for. Would something like this work for Sorc? A lot of Sorc skills, glyphs, and paragons don’t work interchangeably with each other and this could open a lot of variety.

What do you think?

I think just about anything would be better than enchantments are. The damn things hold us back so much with all the design problems they create and aren’t worth the trouble by a long shot. Two thirds of them are basically useless, half the rest only work for certain builds or aren’t good in end game, and so 90% of our builds use the same three or four that are left by default (Frozen Orb, Firebolt, Frost Blades, and sometimes Teleport).

That said, there’s little chance they’ll redesign our system to be just like some other class’s. The whole “class fantasy” idea and all that. I do hope though that for season 6 they commit to a serious overhaul that goes beyond just trying to prop up the existing system and consider redesigning the whole thing from scratch.

There’s so much we need looked at. Buffs to our numbers are great and all but we have fundamental problems that go deeper.

Ya this is a great point. I wasn’t suggesting a copying and pasting of the new class. But something that would help “break up” Sorc since nothing interacts in the Sorc trees if you cross elements.

Then instead of an extra enchantment slot like everyone screams about why not make an elemental attunemt slot. Make it so you can select one of the 3 elements that slot represents, then when you put a skill in that slot it becomes that element type and has a new animation.

For example make the slot a lightning attunement, and put blizzard into it. Now blizzard is a lightning skill that rains down direct damage lightning bolts in the area you cast like in D2. All enchantment and aspects could still work exactly like they already do, even.

in fact i hope sorc class could be more specific and totally mastering each individual elements rather than mixing everything into one cast.

just like when you ordered a cheese burger, you should get a proper cheese burger, not the one with spaghetti in between the meat patty and a scoop of ice cream on top.

I would gladly take the first level of Spirit Hall over our entirely useless Enchantment System.

I really love this idea, but I doubt Blizzard will do it. Coming up with two alternate animations for every skill seems like a hell of a lot of work, unfortunately.

I like where the idea is going but Blizzard has said they want multi-element to be a thing and certain things require it (Tal Rasha’s). I don’t think animations need to change either.

I think there’s benefit to having some level of attunement beyond current enchantment slots so that things like Frigid Breeze and Icefall legendary node could reasonably work with Fireball or Charged Bolt

Animations for most skills to change element would be a simple color swap. Take fireball turned to cold for example. You turn it blue and when it explodes it’s not a ring of fire rather a bunch of ice shard that fly in all directions and deal damage based on ice shard skill. You could even give it inherent chill or something. Then, for a lightning fireball you just reuse the animation for teleport and make it a little bigger. When the thing hits it reuses the animation of Esodora’s for the lightning ring type explosion. There are tons of ways to cut down on new resources here and all it takes is for them to be just a tad bit creative with the existing assets.
