After season update, game wont launch from Bnet

Back with my every update issue friends. I was able to play yesterday morning to close out the season.

After installing the update for S8 the game wont launch out of Bnet. I’ve done the usuals of internet checks, scan and repair tool on Bnet, uninstall and reinstall the game, then uninstall and reinstall both the game and Bnet when the previous steps ultimately dont help. TBH its wild that this happens to me with every patch that the game has had since VoH.

Is anyone having launch issues out of Bnet? Any steps to try other than the above?

Yup. Same thing happened to me. Update comes and I can’t launch the game. Gives me a grey screen then Fenris error. On latest drivers from Nvidia not sure what’s happening here personally. I tried every possible solution I googled on grey screen crash on startup for the game nothing works. Last thing I’ll try is disable XMP in motherboard for RAM but I have zero problems with any other game.

Are you both using laptops or CPU’s with internal graphics and the game is potentially trying to utilize the iGPU instead of the external dedicated?

You can try to delete your LocalPrefs.txt file
Located in folder: Documents > Diablo IV
or, you could try editing the LocalPrefs.txt file and changing the “Adapter” option from “1” to “0” or from “0” to “1”

Also, in Windows ensure Diablo IV is set to utilize the correct GPU instead of letting Windows decide.
Win Key > Graphics > Add an app > set the app to the right GPU

Maybe this will help… In the same LocalPrefs.txt file set:
DisableChromaEffects "1"

Lastly, since it might be considered a “new” game to some antivirus software, it may be getting hung up and needs an exception.

No lol. I’m on a RTX 5090 with a 9800X3D. 5090 has stability issues with their drivers in some games not sure if D4 is one of those. No other game is giving me issues currently though and I’m on the latest driver.

This post got me curious about the integrated even though I have mine disabled. I enabled it just to see if I could boot this game in integrated and what do you know, no problems booting it under integrated. Of course, it crashes on startup with the 5090. So I’m inclined to believe this is another 5090 unstable driver. Anyone who has the mythical GPU able to get in the game and which driver are you using that’s actually stable because it’s definitely not the newest one?

That wouldn’t surprise me in the least. I think the last “stable” recommended driver was 566.36 on a lot of the reddit posts. But I unfortunately don’t have a 5000 series card to mess with.

I think you’re on to something tho

read through some of the comments … a lot mention drivers after 566.36 having issues
