There are some lovely non-AAA ARPG’s that have wonderful filters. I’d love to see very well made item filters for Diablo 4. Here are my two thoughts that I believe would solve every issue and be a major QOL.
Add a “Filter items” button in your inventory that will pop open a UI where you can select to checkmark rarity of items to highlight in your inventory, then other boxes to check off for EVERY single attribute/stat in the game that can roll on items. They can be separated by gear type. “Helmet,” followed by a list of every single attribute/stat that can roll on them. If they are class specific, they can have a {Sorc), (Barb), etc class name next to that attribute/skill. Anything that matches the search results, could have a highlighted box around the item in the inventory, whatever color or glow, doesn’t matter, but make it POP for quick visual scanning.
-
EXAMPLE: Let’s say I wanted to pick up all items on the ground but filter my inventory to show me:
Ring- “rare, legendary, 4 attributes(as oppose to some that only roll 3), crit strike chance, damage to close enemies.”
I’d check off all of those options under the “ring” category. I also want to filter for:
Helmet- “rare, legendary, 4 attributes, cooldown reduction.”
ONLY those items would have a glow/outline or however you want to make them POP out in your inventory. It doesn’t matter what other attributes/stats that each item would have other than the ones that are chosen, but the one(s) that are check marked would HAVE to have at least 1 of those on the item, or that item would not glow. Obviously there’s a maximum of 4 per item, but you would be able to checkmark as many as you want. The less check marks, the more refined.
A box to checkmark for these options would be nice too:
-
Show all Legendary (would highlight all, no matter if the filter legendary button is also checked)
-
Show all Unique
-
Show Ancestral Only
-
Show Sacred and Ancestral Only
-
ONLY show me items that have ALL filers for that item (Warning: Max 4 attribute and 1 legendary aspect filters per item category. Any category with more than 4 filters checked will reset to 0 checked upon accepting this option.) This option would highlight ONLY the items that had everything you selected, making it SUPER refined for only wanting to save the PERFECT items, nothing else will suit your need.
-
Also, a “Clear all filters” button, with a warning to “Confirm.”
In addition to the inventory filtering, there could be a drop filter which could be accessed through the game “options” in the ESC menu. Create a similar UI that has these same types of options. In addition, add a mandatory selection for filtering method checkmark box:
- Show all items but STAR the item labels on ground with my filtered preferences.
- HIDE all items that do not meet my filtered preferences. (Hidden items will not be seen unless this option is unchecked.)
~If there are no filters, no items would be starred or hidden. Therefore, both boxes would be greyed out for not requiring a mandatory checkmark.
General setting in this area for : “Save filters for ALL characters on this account.”
(Warning: Selecting this will overwrite all saved inventory/drop(whichever setting you’re in) filters for all characters. Are you sure you want to proceed? Yes, overwrite all character filters with this selection. No, keep these filters for this character only.)
Other ideas? Implementing a “search” for inventory, bank and settings for refinement, yes. This is helpful but not AS helpful for the main idea I’m going for with this post.
