I played the open beta for about 6 hours each day. Got 1 class to lvl 25, every other class to lvl 16+ and I actually really loved the game, though its not perfect. No game is.
All the main sticking points people have with the game have been beaten to death everywhere you look, but for me I think there is 1 rather simple change to make the game feel a lot better. Balance can be changed as the game goes on, and there’s no point whining about lvl 25 balance. Long cool downs can be augmented but for the most part I didn’t mind them. What felt the worst was sacrificing one of your other skills for a so called Ultimate skill. Some of them were cool, some were not. But it ALWAYS hurt when you got to lvl 24 or what ever when you first got the skill (without renown points) to then have to remove a staple skill thats been in your rotation for hours now, just to put in an ultimate skill that has like 50-90sec cool downs.
Alot of the times it didn’t even feel like a good trade off. And I think the easiest solution to alleviate this pain, AND make the game feel faster and more fun is to have a 7th keybind/skill slot that is ONLY for ultimate skills.
I really enjoyed the beta, my only real deal breaker issues were the networking problems with invisible walls and rubber banding. Everything else was very fun moment to moment game play. I trust the vision of the game and the experience. Love the MMOLite features (big time mmo player here) and want to see more as the game grows.
Adding another skill slot for Ultimate Skills will really REALLY help the feel of the game. I know its no small task. Sure its easy enough to rig up a new keybind, but the UI and artwork side of things would take time. But the time spent would be very much worth it to the players.
