Actually banning for Turbo Hud?

Serious question. For years, I played D3 without Turbo and then I watched some streamers play with it and thought, well, thats a heck of a lot better! But, wait, they will ban you!

Well, years later, turns out they dont. No one got banned for it. So I went years and years not playing with turbo out of a fear of being banned to find out you wont be banned for using it, and before you say, oh streamers dont get banned etc, maybe I have a friend or first hand knowledge that you can use it without getting banned, ok?

So my point is, I am not going to use it in D4 for fear of getting banned. But, I dont want to be left behind after others are using it for years and nothing happens to them. I know blizz posted we will ban for it etc. But will they? Have they?

good thing you dont use it, it clearly forbids the use of 3rd party software in the ToS, and recently, there was even a post about it. its pinned too. for convinience, ill link it tho =)

I dont think you read my post. I know what they said, they also said they would ban for it in d3, but did not actually do it.

I am asking if anyone is actually being banned. Many people are currently using D4 turbo.

they can apply different rules for d3 of course. The message about d4 is clear. so if you use it, be sure that it might be possible to lose 70-100$ (or more if you bought cosmetics)

Again, the message was the exact same for D3. They were clear they’d ban but did not. I give up, forget it.

well, if it helps, people already posted about bans due to using scripts here. so yea, bans happen, i cant tell you if due to TH yet already tho.

thanks, that is what im specifically curious about.

Exploiting is 100% bannable, but i haven’t heard anyone from my com got banned which are a group of few thousand gamers most of them uses it as most top/competitive gamers do. I would’nt risk it as d4 isn’t d3, the usage of overlay isn’t as necessary.

Many people run a bot and use map hack, pickit etc in D2 - I’ve know a fair number of folks who were never banned(small time sample size. 6mos to 1.5 years in most cases).

I never used any form of game automation or modification though believe me I was tempted…

It boils down to the individual and whether or not they think ‘cheating’ is ok.
Personally, though I may feel some systems are poorly designed or a grind for XYZ is arbitrarily long or flat out sadistically coded: I make the decision to not ‘cheat’. Ever.

If a player decides to modify the game then it becomes Risk vs Reward.
For a Player it’s Self Enforcement.
For the Company it’s Policy Enforcement.
When the Company chooses to ignore their own policy… that’s not a green light to ‘cheat’ but it sure sends a message to those who are willing to Risk it.

i can imagine they lost interest in following this in d3 over the time, as of course it costs money and ressources to identify accounts using it.

Misunderstood you earlier btw, i thought you said “you CAN use it in d3”^^ my bad there <3

There was one guy who got banned for using his mouse and keyboard macro capabilities. He posted on the forums that he was injured and unable to click repeatedly, so used his hardware to enable his gameplay. Got banned pretty much immediately. So I imagine if they ban for this, they will ban for software as well. I haven’t searched the forums for banned people, but this guy stood out for me.

In D3 they never once told us specifically they would ban for it but they did in D4, so I would probably say it’s not going to be the same thing.

It’s unusual for them to call something out by name and give a warning about it as they did for D4 thud. They likely did this because they know a lot of people used it in D3 and didn’t want them to think they were taking the same approach in D4.

It was not the same message. For D3, they never named TurboHUD explicitly as bannable.

Recently, Blizzard named TurboHUD4 explicitly as bannable.

Imagine getting banned for something like this in essentially a single player game. This company is something else. Next EA or rather the have taken the crown from EA at this point

I think you’;re right, we talked about it a lot about being bannable but you’re right, i dont think they specifically said yes, this exact program is. I am still curious, the hud players are out in force I hear

counterpoint: the best features in TurboHUD and other 3rd party addons are UX/UI improvements that only give an “unfair advantage” because they reconfigure what are otherwise dark design patterns disguised as “player agency.”

For example, would you rather do the math and squint at the lines on 100 yellow items, manually entering some of the DPS ones into a website calculator to see which is more DPS…

…or would you prefer an addon to do those things for you if you wanted them to? Perhaps an “overall roll quality = X%” score.

It’s insane to me that a calculator is even needed, and that people were surprised about how OP crit + vuln were because it isn’t clear how the “dps bucket equation” works. The solution? Show the DPS buckets and what your damage numbers are.

But I mean, can you even trust that when it says I have 105% of the challenges completed? Third party software have revealed official bugs before…

Would you prefer an in game damage meter…

…or somehow parse damage by eyeballing it and accept the illegible combat text with VULNERABLE text everywhere that can’t be removed?

Would you like the ability to move the interface around so that buffs / frames / cooldowns are in the middle of the screen so you’re not looking all over the place (ridiculous UI options for widescreen, for example).

In theory it is honorable to try to level the playing field with the UI, so that there is 0 metagame of “how good your addons are = inseparable from how well you perform” (see wow arenas for how ridiculous it can be)… but in practice the information as it is shown on the screen is not ideal.

In reality, they’ll make tweaks as they realize one of the major pieces of friction to enjoying D4 is the UX/UI, and how it greatly overshadows the immersion.

D3 had botting and “map reveal” as an obviously untouched exploit background, but the stigma of addons is silly: WoW does it, and does it the best out of any game. But blaming these QOL enhancements that only automate information is misplaced, especially when people in D3 ladders apparently played 24 hours a day for entire seasons and didn’t get banned.

Want to level the playing field and get player support about 3rd party usage bans? Make the interface not require them as much via better customization options and more information.

It’s ironic, because players could confirm obvious bugs with some of the addons… I have no idea what tools are actually used on Blizzard’s end, but some of the effect bugs would be extremely obvious if displayed differently.

i mean this is a what if question. no one will ever know unless it happens

That’s why I typed it as ‘cheating’ and not flat - cheating. The ’ ’ serve the purpose of leaving it more subjective, generalized and not blanket statement labeling.

There’s a grey area with many things THud for example.
It brings as much QOL as it brings TMI.
Idk how the interface is with D4 but in D3 and the vids I’d watched - there seemed to be some great QOL but the TMI was over the top - Built in MapHack, Elite locations clearly marked in Fog of War + the affixes to expect etc.

Petition for more things UI and always make them optional.
I’m all for it.
