It’s not a bad game, it’s just mid. Blizzard North made the first two Diablo’s. The “new” Blizzard made Diablo 3 and it was a complete mess out of the box. They had to literally remake it into an SSF set-defined lockdown in order to fix it. And it was fixed, for the most part. It’s a decent game, if not stellar.
Now you have a company more focused on equity politics than game design trying to build a cutting edge ARPG. It’s one of the most difficult genre of games for those who know what they’re doing to pull off, let alone a bunch of purple haired kids who weren’t even alive when the first Diablo launched. They actually did much better than I expected.
Maybe they fix D4 and build it into something really good, maybe they don’t. Either way, there are other games in the genre that are great.
