Action Role Playing Games

I was introduce to this genre in the 90s, specifically Diablo 1 and in love with this genre since then.

For me, a good ARPG = Good “action” is a priority among all. I want smooth animation, smash things that makes me feel good. I don’t want to dwell in online guides to check just to play. I want to login, HACK & SLASH and logoff.

I see no issue with S3, and utterly confused by why the player base is so angry about it.

D4 has a good based game, good engine/graphics. It can only get better. For those that don’t like D4, please go play PoE/Last Epoch.

Thank you.

Yeah they will go away for a while but in the end they all come back there is just nothing quite like the combat in Diablo games it just feels right.

last epoch has very lame graphics and animations and gameplay… so does poe… but poe2 might surpass d4

that being said… I played last epoch for a month… came back to d4 and I never realized how much I needed an open world… maybe i’m just a normie or something but I prefer being part of a “world” than a 24/7 instance, so i’m not even sure i’ll even log in once these other games release

There are some things this game does well, and there are some things it does very poorly.

People wanting the game to be good on all of these fronts, is not a bad thing.

You claim you love this genre, but really you just have different standards or are not deep enough into the game to see its problems. There is very little to do past lvl 80 still. And even less at 100.

No offense, but all your post does is stir the pot. The ones complaining aren’t suddenly going to have an epiphany after reading your post and just leave the forums or the game. There’s been a dozen of these types of posts before and after launch. Trust me when I say there will always be complainers.

Now if you like the game and you enjoy it, good. Don’t worry about the forums, just have fun in the game. Let these children rant and rave to their hearts content. It won’t last forever, D3 forums settled down a long time ago. It took a while, just like D4 forums will, but it’ll happen, just give it a year or two.

Now this doesn’t mean the game doesn’t need changes, it desperately does, and we need constructive criticism, but praising the game beyond a shadow of a doubt doesn’t help the situation either.

I think your issue is that you treat this game like WoW, where you expect the game to start at max level. But this is aRPG mostly and the whole concept is the leveling progression. What the true problem in this game is the itemization and leveling is happening little too fast from lvl85 above! You don’t need many different ways to acquire the same loot. You don’t need whole lot systems-mystems in such games. What you need is good itemization and good progression with creative crafting!

The thing is that some people who claim they hate the game actually would like to spend their whole life playing it, and so far, it is not really giving them that possibility.

Your post is a little genralising, But i do agree i enjoy S3 alot, infact more than S2, which i didn’t like, but also i was D4 burnout, i played core and s1 alot, the break was nice and S3 has felt fresher becasue of that,so there is certainly a play too much issue weather people see that or not, guild wars 2 has deeper and more engaging systems than most games. i still get burned out when i play alot. But that is a personal issue, some people may not and that is fine.
In general though, some complaints and over the top and have closed minded and selfish nature to them. Other’s though are valid and should be discussed, there is still much room for improvement. Just depends on who is talking and who blizzard is listening to is another issue.
People shilling for LE/POE is another thing and just ignore it who cares. But its ok to use them as examples if making a point of what you think is good for D4, However i also think Copying systems from those games is not good for D4 either.
Yes it serves me well too at its core, and i enjoy alot of the new, D4 brings, still alot to polish though, but also i think the game growing and updating as seasons roll out is not bad either even though it meant the core game was a bit vanilla.
I actually like where we are now, game feels fuller and more fun to play, best barb i have rolled has been this season and i have plenty to do i one nights session so i agree there is some over complaining at this point.

No I actually preferred the slower leveling on launch.
I treat 50 onwards as the end game.
But by 80 it becomes a chore. Because it is very repetitive, and you can only level Glyphs in NMD and Vaults, forcing you to run those ad nauseum.

And when you hit 100 in 2 weeks (because they sped up the leveling), there is even less to do. There is not much journey to enjoy. If it were slower leveling I am on your page, in fact I was very much against speeding it up as you now find yourself at the end of the journey way too quickly. Blizzard decided to speed this up because people complained they could not finish a character in a season. I play like 2 hours a day, and maybe a little more on weekends. I also skip days. “2 weeks” is based on that level of activity.

The only thing to do after 100 is Lilith, Duriel, Malphas, and NMDlvls you could not reach before 100. And some people do these before 100. It is even worse on Eternal as they don’t have Malphas yet.

You know why it become chore and repetitive ? One of the reasons is how the game rewards you. I’m explaining - As of now most of the high rewards is from chests, you have dungeons and there, only when you finish it, it rewards you with chests and start raining loot, and the other - you have Whispers and ONLY when you’ve completed the required quests you get rewarded! So you have to kill meaningless(chore) trash to get to the reward… Which is kinda bonkers, bc aRPGS are games mostly for killing stuff and get rewarded for it, but here is not the case…

What they’ve should do, is the high reward to be from the Elite mobs and their companions like the old ways, thus creating constant engaging with rewards(I’m coming from d2 and there i don’t get bored to farm one place over and over, but here i kinda feel the chore too). Ofc they have to reduce the Elite mob numbers(bc of balance). And the other reason you feel chored is the itemization, it is not creative enough - in fact it’s quite boring!

The other issue is that they are creating 100 level only content. That is a big mistake, bc create an mentality that you have to fast/skip leveling to get there… If they make all content available lvl85, then ppl won’t be so obsessed to reach max level!

You said it yourself……. It can only get better Lol

:black_joker:

here’s your award

I think some of the reward stuff they addressed this season by making 925’s drop at a decent rate from nmd70+ and guaranteed at NMD90+. Yes there is definitely more to improve.

Itemization is not perfect and they are reworking that…but it really wasn’t one of the big offenders for me.

What makes it a chore is repetitively doing the same thing and not needing to pick up any more gear because you farmed Duriel and have 925’s in every slot…but your glyphs are barely just 15. This goes back to what I said in another thread, slotted Glyphs should auto level at a lower rate based on exp or monsters killed or something. Nothing too significant, but a way to get glyph exp without being stuck doing one thing over and over.

The rest is just still pretty much lack of content as there is 3 or 4 things. If they left AoZ in it would feel like there is more to do…but the rewards in that make it feel like a Hamster Wheel. So it gets old, fast.

Maybe Blizzard could put some emphasis on the eternal realm. Give players a long term goal.

There is no clear definition of what ‘good action’ is.
I mean, the combat in D1 and D4 are wildly different from one another.
Do I think D1 had better action than D4? Yeah. But some others seem to have the opposite view.

In any case, good action is just one of the important pillars of an A-RPG imo, and far from the most important one.
Good character building and good itemization are at minimum as important in my view.
