Accursed aspect for sorcerer

There was a separate thread on this but the thread name was called metamorphosis. Below is a summary of some new and old findings for Accursed:

New:
1.) Solid tal rasha replacement against thorns barbs for a FW build: Since only 2 skills dont proc thorns (incinerate and firewall), you can only do one element damage. So tal rasha isnt as useful. I replaced tal rasha with a gold ring with this aspect. Win loss ratio at 95% against a solid A to B tier barb.
2.) Visually cool looking in nmds: ground is constantly earthquaking, ghosts are going everywhere and exploding, and pumpkins appear over peoples heads. These visual effects are what Starless should have looked like.
3.) A second use case for this aspect is open-world / helltides farming if your skills dont have splash damage. The ghosts released from Accursed seem to go everywhere and explode.

Old findings
1.) Lasts for about 30 seconds
2.) Doesnt proc well for firewall DOT
3.) Procs very well for teleport since TP has a lucky hit of like 100%
4.) Not a good replacement for any existing aspects across most sorc builds. So pvp against thorns barb and open-world farming are two of the few use cases for Accursed
5.) Needs high lucky hit base of >= 90% to be reliable

3/17 update: pure blizzard doesnt proc thorns, so you can technically still use tal rasha. And if you shoot a random lightning skill into a crowd of minions during pvp, you can technically still get 45% multiplicative damage from tal rasha against a thorns barb. All that aside, im still not using tal rasha anymore against thorns barb. You need Accursed + Engulphing against top tier thorns.

D). Barbs shouldnt hit the teacher

Talon, 100% agree the pvp use case for accursed aspect is probably the best one. This is a really cool idea btw, otherwise how can you put vuln on a thorns barb?

I use frost nova a lot to get vulnerability when the opponent doesnt have too much CC. It also freezes the opponent so there is some extra FW bbq time

Does nova proc thorns? (I feel like it shouldn’t, but i also feel like you guys have told me that it does)

Since it does no damage, I sure hope not.

It has never proc’d thorns for me. It does no damage. I thought someone said it did but maybe they were referring to frozen orb or some special kind of thorns barb.

If Macro said it does proc, then it was some barb variation. I put all of my faith in the Encyclopedia of Macro

Is anyone using accursed in their normal build? For my CL sorc I replaced my recharging aspect with it. I really like it, vuln plus the explosions is great

I’d consider it on my eternal CL sorc, but she’s built on spawning Lightning Spears so I’m not sure she actually needs the Vuln now that LS applies it. Between that and Static Surge I feel like she should have enough Vuln application without Accursed.

On my current FW sorc I would 100% switch to using Accursed in eternal once I’m no longer getting Breaking support from the Seneschal. I have 100% LHC bonus and see a lot of X’Fals explosions, so I’m pretty sure triggering it won’t be much of an issue.

As a FW sorc, Im using it for thorns barbs in PVP but it’s not reliably proc’ing with DOT. Either with blizzard or firewall.

So i was playing against our favorite thorns barb last night and he was kind enough to let me test TP’ing into him. I was also testing Occy evade. Main goal was to understand how much damage i was incurring when i TP’d into him. Surprisingly i wasnt incurring any damage. He did have thorns on though because i did forget to swap out frozen orb at the beginning of the fight.

Why wouldnt TP proc thorns? Just an extra setting he didnt turn on? Close range thorns vs long? Can they do both?

Also back to Accursed: with my build i can only have Conceited or Stormswell (due to limited aspect slots) and Conceited has been my default for the past few months. With TP’ing into a thorns barb, i can trigger an extra 15% from tal rasha, trigger accursed more reliably since TP skill has 100%+ lucky hit. So this might make the case for swapping conceited with Stormswell to get an extra 7% damage multiplier.

Interesting. Maybe the moment the damage hits, you’re in the moment that tp has iframes (i think, never 100% confirmed yet, that tp has a few iframes at a certain moment in the animation; i might actually just be making that up tho) so the thorns damage return missed?

Here is my (very non-scientific) guess: when you teleport you become unstoppable, and becoming unstoppable breaks the DOT damage. So when you teleport into a thorn barb, if your unstoppable kicks in one millisecond BEFORE you start getting damage from thorns (due to frames, lag, or for whatever other reason), you continue taking that damage. If you become unstoppable one millisecond AFTER you start receiving the thorns damage, that damage gets “cancelled”. And because it happens so fast, it feels like you have never taken one.
