Look here is how it is,
If you turn this game into a slog fest → it better be super rewarding in return (but it isn’t)
And you shouldn’t make this game into a slog fest to begin with. Why are you trying to go towards the path down PoE 2 is beyond me. While, ironically, PoE 2 right now is trying all it can to be more like Diablo 4 where they are
- actively trying to make the game WAY more rewarding (loot wise)
- actively trying to make the game less of a slog fest and more blasting oriented
- actively trying to make the game easier and more (FUN) to enjoy.
Tell me why blizzard, you decided to take all that is hated in PoE 2 and try to add it in D4 for season 8 ? What exactly are you trying to achieve here ? Do you not know your player base ?
My Sorc is currently in T2 right now, playing incinerate build, paragon level 85 I think ? I play several hours a day I think is probably pretty average play time… And the leveling journey really sucks hard.
Tormented boss and incursion bosses are now sponges - most of their abilities still 1 shots you despite having max armor and max resist . Oh, didn’t they say they got rid of the 1 shots before going live ? I don’t think so…
incursion bosses drop 1 piece of legendary loot , and you get 1 or 2 of those dusts thing to level your power with. Jesus can you be more cheap to your players ?
And why can’t you have the activities spawn closer to each other instead make everyone run all over the place like headless chicken ? That is just weird design to me.
Only cool thing is boss power, and you just have to gut it to oblivion now that if your class cannot actively scale the multiplier of that boss power, it is effectively useless on it is own.
Turn all these mess around while you can Blizzard. This new patch which added more reputation is the right direction, first step …

I don’t think it’s any more of a slog than it usually is.
Not turbo charged like S7, but that was an anomalous patch.
This is coming from someone who thinks, hands down, S8 is the worst season in the game’s history.

Trust me, in terms of slog this game and PoE2, heck even PoE 1 are miles apart. You wanna spend hours on the first few acts for not looking up a guide? That’s PoE, at least D4 earlygame is pretty self explanatory and you can do nearly anything to reach 60 pretty fast.

come on, I was leveling in mostly normal and hard difficult, as a sorc, it was such a unpleasant experience. The loot feels god awful, elites were sponges, and no you cannot even solo the incursion bosses. There was 1 time when I went to the incursion and there was no one and I couldn’t even solo it - I did not die, but the timer ran out…
My current situation is I want my character to get stronger but I don’t want to do any of the activities. After I do an activity I don’t wanna do the same one over again but I also don’t want to do a different one.
“Slog” here refers to rate of progression when someone knows what to do. Gotta keep terms consistent otherwise comparisons don’t mean anything.
- “Slog” because new player doesn’t know what to do next.
- “Slog” because devs turned a knob to the right in order to boost retention so the suits think the game is doing well.
One of these is topical.
Summary of my experience since halfway through S5.
Even still, that doesn’t take into account how much they know, what type of player they are (speedrunner, hardcore grinder, etc.). If you put a seasoned path of exile player, by the end of day 1 they can have multiple exalts through merching earlygame items and blitz to endgame in a few hours.
However if you’re looking at both games as a whole, the “slog” in PoE is vastly sloggier than D4.
OP is referring to endgame progression. “Topical” means someone who is progressing through endgame. You came close in this last reply to limiting the comparison to “endgame”… but you reverted to “both games as a whole” in the final sentence. The human mind is fascinating.
You consider level 85 in T2 endgame?

Though I understand how you Feel OP, I do not feel the same way, At all.
On an incinerate sorc? Probably. The term is almost meaningless in D4, except to differentiate early leveling from “endgame content”. 85/T2 isn’t early leveling, so by D4 standards it’s “endgame”. But the delineation is between newbie figuring out the game, and “endgame progression”.
“Game as a whole” doesn’t fit.
I’ll tell you what I mean by game as a whole then. I’ve gotten to endgame in PoE 1 and D4, and from personal experience on multiple characters, I can without a doubt tell you that PoE takes much longer and much more knowledge to get there. The slog is real in PoE, in comparison you can get to endgame in D4 within a few days without knowing a whole lot about builds, the meta, etc. This can take weeks in PoE, especially since the “endgame” in path has an extremely high ceiling.
Can you give some comparisons/examples?
Gonna disagree with ya. I thought I’d be done in 2 days, but the chase feeling is still here. Only found 1 mythic so far (Heir of Perdition helm from T3 Varshann) and missing quite a few aspects and runes. Almost paragon 200, T4 unlocked but too slow to play still (for my comfort). Running minion Necro with bonespear mages. My own build too.

diablo 4 has been absolutely rewarding. So much that people even feel that loot isnt special anymore. Everything, even now, is handed on a silver platter. Difference now is that it takes slightly longer.
curious to see that. Are you armor capped and res capped? I highly doubt that and experience tells me that im often enough correct.
that i can kinda agree with when we talk about the incursions. It felt a little weird running back and forth during leveling ^^
isnt it sad that we have to say its “still” there after 2 days lol?
damn btw, paragon 200? o.o crazy dude^^

Welp, I’m done with this game, just saw the new nonsense fighting Duriel. The fanboys and tryhards can have it.

duriel is actually one of the easier. I mean… his mechanics cant be more obvious. There actually are bosses that id say could be a little less punishing, i dont see duriel being one of those at all.
Anyway, see you in a week.
no, you won’t I know you’re one of the staunchest defenders of the faith and think everything is awesome no matter what they do. I’ll go play something that isn’t being driven 100% by increasing profit and engagement metrics.
Now run along and buy some more platinum to dutifully spend.

oki doki. Just make sure it isnt a game with any form of difficulty. It might anger you.
