in all my years of gaming, is vessel of hatred the most expensive dlc/expansion till today?
Wasn’t Vessel of Hatred that Patrick Swayze movie?
no… i would say cod, madden, or fifa. you can’t call any of them seperate games. it’s the same game every year with some dlc addons
No, the WoW expansion is $50. I’m pleasantly surprised Vessel of Hatred isn’t the same.
Blizzard expansions have always been expensive, around $35 since Diablo 2. $40-50 is going to be the new standard for them going forward, guaranteed.
Yes you can, annual releases and expansions are not the same thing, nor do they have the same price tag.
I think the Sims 4 has nearly $1,000 in addons.
Lord of Destruction at release was like 40$. When you account for inflation, the base Vessel of Hatred expansion is actually cheaper than Lord of Destruction…
People like to crap on microtransactions and such but they are a large part of why gaming has been relatively immune to inflation. By all rights consoles should be like $1400 MSRP at release and new base games like $200.
A NES game in the early 90’s cost about $50. SNES generation and on the price went up to about $60 and that pricing had held firm until a couple of years ago, when the base price of AAA games went up to $70. It is honestly crazy that it took that long for the price to go up.
EDIT: Corrected price from $50 to $40.
It definitely wasn’t that expensive. I’m pretty sure LOD and The Frozen Throne were both $35 at launch. Even that seemed expensive at the time compared to what other companies were charging for their expansions.
Most base games were still $50 and Blizzard was charging $60. But they could get away with it.
You’re right that it wasn’t $50, I found my old box and it still has the sticker on it. It was $39.99
Even that is more expensive than I remember, damn didn’t know it was that much.
The MSRP sticker price of games hasn’t changed much in decades, which is honestly crazy given the difference in inflation. That’s why when they went up to $70 it was such a big deal. It was the first standard price jump since the SNES days.
39.99 is expensive??
I think a lot of people just take the highest cost bundle when talking about price, which is really not the right way to compare prices, past and present.
The reason they are even able to offer the base expansion at $40 is because there will be a lot of people buying the higher editions, which gives the devs a lot more bang for their buck in terms of development time for those bonuses.
EDIT: So basically people are making threads and talking about the price of VoH being $90, which as I said above isn’t a fair conclusion to come to.
i plan on getting the ultimate. i mean it gives 3000plat along with all the other bonuses.
for me is 180 R$, its around 15% of minimum wage in brazil
It’s definitely the first time I’ve seen an expansion being more expensive than the base game (for the Ultimate version). That’s pretty hilarious.
lod in 2001 was $40
ros in 2014 was $40
voh in 2024 is $40
how can you call this expensive? they have kept the price low after 23 years of inflation.
Every version is $10 less than what the base game versions was initialy at launch. Atleast fact check before you pull stupid claims out of your a$$.
I paid 70€ for the base game, and the Ultimate expansion costs 90€. 90 > 70 q.e.d.
You compare the Delux edition price of the base game, to the Ultimate edition price of the expansion?
