There are a few problems. One is that if I want to change a point on the first iter of talents, I don’t just have to pay for that point. I have to pay for a point somewhere deeper in the tree as well, then place the point, because the current UI is ABSOLUTE garbage. Additionally, ‘refining a build’ could mean undoing 10-15 ponits at a time. Say the problem is my core skill isn’t ideal, I then have to unspec 5 points in the skill + 2 in the skills down the line from it. And that’s not counting any passives attached to it. It becomes prohibitive quickly.
If EVERYONE is doing that, then you might be right. If I am doing that, then you’re wrong. That’s a sign that the game is giving me tons of things that seem fun and it is amazingly designed. If I want to respec every hour that means I have seen something that caught my eye often enough that I am excited about it. That’s a great positive.
You’re overestimating how impactful an item has to be to make me want to swap build. It just has to be interesting enough it makes me happy. Which could be a pretty simple affix. SAy I get an item with a really interesting combination of lucky hits… maybe I’ll wanna change up my build to use more lucky hits. Etc.
Again though, it’s not about NEEDING to respec to be successful. Its about WANTING to respec because I feel like trying something new. And I don’t want to feel like my entire game has to revolve around ‘earning enough gold to be able to play the game’.
