About Isometric Impostor Rendering

D4 has a top down perspective camera. In theory It’s possible to switch that camera into an isometric mode, like in D2. An isometric mode allows more precise visual estimation of ranges on the map, because there is no perspective distortion. Another advantage of an isometric mode is that it’s possible to use impostors to render the map. The advantage of using impostors is that they allow drawing the whole map using a SINGLE DRAW CALL. This would save A LOT of GPU power for rendering characters and monsters, at the cost of VRAM. Another advantage of this idea is that an iconic feature from D2:LoD could be brought back, which is valuable for marketing/branding purposes, if they want to promote this game among old-school D2:LoD fans.

look, i have no opinion on your idea.

im just happy that SOMEBODY ON THESE FORUMS knows the difference between isometric and perspective. AND FINALLY… finally somebody says diablo 4 IS NOT isometric.

im so sick of people calling d4 and d3 isometric games. the diablo series hasnt been isometric since 2.

Blizzard is hiring you should apply. What you’re saying sounds legit. Obviously I have no idea what you’re saying, you could just be telling them to go look for blinker fluid for the car for all I know. All I read was better GPU performance at the cost of vram, which I’m all for.

Highly doubtful they will make this change, but you make it very enticing.
