Hi,
tldr:
I would love to be able to unlock accelerated/premium battle pass by paying the required amount in real currency.
I’m a type of player that hates predatory microtransactions (which I [want to] believe is most of us here), and for cosmetics rewards I can live without them and basically ignore them.
However Diablo 4 is one of the games I would actually consider buying a battle pass and justify myself internally that I am contributing to help make the game better by supporting it’s further development (not gonna lie, rewards are also welcome).
One thing I have trouble accepting is buying premium currency, as in my book that part is by definition predatory. I understand it solves problems like currency conversion, but why not just sell it in USD or whatever currency you choose, and give players like me a choice to pay that way. I am much more inclined to go through a little hassle and convert some EUR to USD than buying a premium currency and have to deal with disappointment in myself because of breaking my principles.

I really don’t see the difference…
Couple of most obvious ones:
- Obfuscates the amount you are spending.
- You can never buy exactly the amount you want to spend (by intentional design, mind you).

I am dealing with it buy not buying. I am pretty sure it is in the interest of company to provide me with a way in which I would be happy to give them money. Obviously this can have negative effects (in terms of spending) if current in-game currency buyers would switch to this method, but from the comments above I don’t think it will affect that demographic.

Again, not an issue. You get 666 platinum just for playing the game so after a couple seasons you won’t even need to pay extra money for the pass. I get what you’re saying, but if you’re gonna buy the pass anyway it really doesn’t matter.
not to mention those of us who have been playing game like destiny 2 with seasons for years, this has always been the formula
And for you nothing would change, I’m just asking for payment method for me, not you.

yes and you can purchase the plat and what isnt used for your bp can be saved and used on the next one. or if you have plat available is the temptation to spend it on the shop too tempting?
I simply stated what is acceptable and not acceptable for me, trying to convince me otherwise is beyond the point. The questions is, can we have additional payment methods, the arguments why you do not need it, do nothing for me.

simple answer than, no. they wont change a feature because of 1 persons laziness to buy the plat
You can call me lazy and I can question your morals (and spending habits while we are at it).
totally agree. i guess we will have to find out or get this answered in tomorrows stream. personally id like to get the next pass as well, but id rather purchase it with a direct buying option.

I’m not sure where you are seeing predatory practices? You can put an exact amount in your bnet account with a reloadable card. Then purchase the 1000 plat with those bnet funds. You can even get within 66 plat of the exact amount needed for the BP and S2 that gimic will be gone and the amount that you get for completion will be 700 plat. Do you boycott shampoo companies that give you 20% more as well?

He’s right though. Having a platinum price instead of a real price is a trick to make you forget how much money you’re really spending into the game. This is vastly used in F2P. And there’s absolutely no OTHER reason for it to be there.
I chose pursposefuly to ignore it, but it’s not like it serves another purpose.

No trick. Global game. The virtual currency allows them to standardize. Plus if I spend x $$$ per 100 plat how will I not know how much I spent? Plus, all the items and bundles are divisable by an exact comination of bundles.
- and worst of all is you can’t ever convert “funny money” back into actual currency, while Blizzard or any other company that uses this system, completely controls the value of it.
You are absolutely right to be weary of this, as it is predatory. It is not as bad here as it is in other places. But, yeah the scenarios can get pretty bad. Star Citizen always comes to mind.
If you value your money keep it as an actual currency until you are absolutely sure you want to spend it.

Only if someone is completely brain dead and shouldnt be trusted with money in the first place.

I think, in addition to buying the premium/accelerated pass with the currency, Blizzard could ultimately also include direct payment methods.
Now that’s a win-win situation.
Agreed, in game premium currency systems are highly predatory and should be banned. Seeing the platinum currency nearly made me immediately quit the game, and if I had noticed it before my 2 hour refund deadline was up I would have immediately returned the game.
