A Wanderer's Sanctuary

A Wanderer’s Sanctuary

Preface:
I enjoy Diablo IV very much. While I don’t believe the game needs this type of content, it is something I would LOVE that maybe has not been proposed or discussed. Please excuse me for possibly posting this again in the future or on other forums – it may take me a while to give up on the idea if it doesn’t get traction. The developers have proven time and again that they listen to the community which has sparked a hope in me that, with enough interest, this fan’s idea could be workshopped and implemented into a future update.

Basic Idea:
A Seasonal/Eternal-persistent objective that grants permanent rewards through a progression system. The way that I imagine this implemented is via a “Hideout.” The Wanderer’s Hideout is persistent in any realm and on all account characters. Upgrades and customization options can be unlocked via its own progression system. I imagine it as a large cave with a concealed entrance.

Hideout Upgrade Ideas:

  1. Unlock it as a Waypoint
  2. Unlock Wardrobe
  3. Unlock Workshop Stations (these bonuses only apply when using stations inside the Hideout – they do not apply to vendors in town):
    • Blacksmithing (only salvage and repair gear):
      • +X% bonus materials when salvaging gear
      • -X% cost when repairing gear
    • Jewelcrafting (only craft/salvage jewels and remove jewels):
      • -X% material cost to craft jewels
    • Alchemy (only craft elixirs and incense):
      • -X% material cost to craft elixir
      • -X% material cost to craft incense
    • Enchanting (only craft/salvage consumables):
      • +X% bonus materials when salvaging consumables
      • -X% material cost to craft consumables
  4. Unlock Menagerie
    • A place to display pets and select which to take with you.
  5. Unlock Stable
    • A place to display mounts and select which to use.
  6. Unlock various Hideout decorations
  7. Unlock Hall of Heroes (optional, but I think it would be really cool)

Hall of Heroes:
As a strictly Seasonal player, I have wondered what to do with past seasonal characters that I know I will never play again. I hate to delete them, but in the back of my mind I know it will come to that when I fill up all of my slots. This idea will allow players to add unused characters to the Hall of Heroes - freeing up slots for new characters but adding a way to remember previous characters. This is how I picture it working:

  1. Option on character select to move character to Hall of Heroes
    • Warning message: “This character will no longer be playable. Are you sure you want to proceed?”
  2. In the Wanderer’s Hideout there is a section with unlockable pedestals for Hero Statues.
    • Players can pick which Hero to display from the list of characters they have moved to the Hall of Heroes.
    • The statue of the Hero will be the same model as the character, and there will be a commemorative plaque with the character’s name and a title (the title is chosen at the time of selecting the Hero to display).
      • Clicking on the plaque will bring up Feats of Strength accomplished by that character (e.g. boss kills, character stats, hours played, total kills, etc.)
    • The statue can be fitted with a class appropriate armor set from those unlocked in the Wardrobe system
      • The armor set is not made of stone like the statue – it has the same look and animation as normal.

I’m sure there will be reasons why this can’t work, and I’m happy to hear them. I’d like to consider them and possibly identify ways to adjust this idea so it can work. One complaint I can foresee is the fact that our Hero is a wanderer. While I still believe a Hideout is consistent with that lore, I believe the same idea could be accomplished with a Caravan. The caravan could have carts with workshop stations, the menagerie could be a mobile pen, and the mounts could be tied to the end of the caravan. I don’t see how the Hall of Heroes would work with it, but it’s less important in my mind than the idea of a permanent cross-realm progression system.

Please interact with this post. Even if you hate the idea, I would rather know the community doesn’t feel the same way. If enough people show interest I would like to campaign the idea further, but I won’t waste my time if the general consensus is, “Meh.”
