98% of the player base stood no chance in the race anyway

That fair my dude, i gotcha.

I was just saying that’s how it comes off as, it’s not personal or hopefully it didn’t come off as such lol… and yea PVPers do outnumber the HC people, they won’t admit it but, we know the truth.

It’s estimated that at least 18M copies have been sold, meaning if each copy represents a player, then 1000 players of those 18M is just 0.00555%

When were any of you anywhere close to the top 0.00555% of any game? Most of you probably never achieved anything to be ranked in the top 0.00555% in anything. Congratulations to those who were, but that’s not going to be most of you, definitely not those with this mindset, that causes them to get annoyed over these things like this contest.

Or do this many of you genuinely think this highly of yourselves, because then I think it’s time to get off the high horse and come to terms with the facts.

Even if you alone would have the advantage of more than 10 days EA, you still wouldn’t make it to the top 1% or in other words, it would still be incredibly unlikely to be among the 180000 “professional” players, had they not even be given any early access.

I’d be curious to see some content from those complaining, how they play other games, what records they hold in gaming, how much time they spend on games in general in a day, what do they do in their free times.

I have a strong feeling most are just picking fights and starting arguments because they have nothing better to do, but know it too, that it makes no difference to them because they wouldn’t win anyways.

Do you realize how often underdogs happen to win something? Much more often than you obviously think.

I for example had multiple lvl 99 HC characters in D2, few Hardcore characters in diablo 3 that hit grift 150 with decent times etc.

I had a meniscus surgery few days ago which means i don’t have to go anywhere, only thing i will do is play d4. Given all that i wrote above,i think it makes me more than qualified to have some chance. And i am not the only one. But not anymore, given how they decided to handle things.

Once again,it’s not up to you or anyone else to decide who has a chance and who doesn’t. The entire idea of competition is that everyone has the same opportunity from very beginning. This has been the case forever.

And now comes a guy named VInnie, to tell everyone how all those people in past century were actually dumb. VInnie has better idea.

I am baffled we are even discussing this for God’s sake!

Sure, I’ll indulge you. I have 5 lvl 100 in POE and multiple 95+ (profile ‘lolerman’ if you want to check), some of them were hardcore before RIPs on pinnacle bosses. I have hundreds of hours in multiple games on steam, I was competitive in Dota, warcraft 3, warhammer, poe (without winning anything major or joining gaming teams etc…, just casually competitive).
Still I’m a guy that works a 8 hours /day job and I have 2 year old daughter. My gaming hours are not the same as a streamer’s and I’ve taken days off for the D4 launch.
I don’t consider myself a ‘top’ player, maybe a few notches above average, but still if D4 announces a ‘race’ I’d expect it to be a fair race if I’m to give it a shot. Otherwise it’s just marketing BS that wastes my excitement and time, which this one currently is.

Also you have to understand it’s not necessarily about winning, it’s about participating and the feeling which you get while playing. Maybe on an even field I had a 1% chance to be in the first 1000. Which means even if it’s not me, someone like me would win it, and i’d push myself for the fun and excitement. The playing field is far from even at the moment. The ‘unfair advantage’ is present and nobody knows to what extent (it could be 100 people that tested the whole game, it could be thousands, who knows). Will that keep me away from playing the game? No. But also I won’t push myself or get the same enjoyment that I’d have if I was ‘competing’ even with low odds. It all comes down to feeling. I don’t think I’m alone in this.

your math makes no sense cause not everyone is playing hc

I have 3 lvl 100 HC in PoE and one 95.
The game is 10 years old and even so, when a new season comes out, it’s impossible to race with those who run the mines for example.

Fine, but it’s not hard to scale it to a reasonable number of players, but take into consideration that more than usual will play HC because of this “race”, you still wouldn’t make it to the top 1%. Doesn’t matter how you look at it.

i personaly dont care about HC even the stupid race, race is on the street good luck with hc race i want to enjoin and explorer the game cant wait for june 2.

Delusions of grandeur.

Bro, take some time typing. People have eyes here.

Ok, so if I got it right, it’s the top 1000 players to hit LV100, then you get your gamer tag on a plaque on a statue of Lilith. In hardcore mode.

This, isn’t as bad as what you’re going on about. To get to lv100 without dying, in hardcore is a damn good achievement in and of itself. To further level the field, it’s only from official launch day that this becomes a playing field (yep, nope, no head starts for early access).

Now, what I’d absolutely love to see, is a monument in game, with the gamer tags of the first 1000 players to DIE in hardcore mode, and what level they were :smiling_imp:

And put it as viewable in hardcore and soft core servers :skull:

Or, alternatively a monument to the fallen, doesn’t matter who’s died when, just adds a number to view, ergo: 1,403 players have died in hardcore so far etc. be fun.

I just can’t imagine wasting the launch of a game actually worth being excited for by getting worked up over all this petty nonsense.

It’s just that many of these players know it from the start. Like me. I would probably die at level 20 even if I was interested in the competition and gave it a go.

Competitions are a petty thing by definition.

Some people are just competitive by nature. And even if they were never going to compete, or never had a shot at winning, that doesn’t invalidate their ability to empathize with others.

The same could be said about those who are complaining about those who care. Why do you care and upset that others care? That to me makes no rational sense.

The race will be won by teams of players that have multiple people playing one account. The game will be over in less than a week. They will play the game in the worst way possible to achieve the goal.

What I find disturbing is that Blizzard puts out a contest knowing full well that people will try to achieve this goal through bots, sleep deprivation, energy drinks or uppers. Possibly losing their life in doing so.

Please do not be one of the people who do this.

That’s why I feel the leaderboards, when they go live, need to not only have stuff for grinding, but stuff based on speed. That way, it’s the best of both worlds. Bots for the most part just aren’t efficient, but can out grind you. But speed runs allow even players with limited time to have a shot at competing. (And talking about something where you can’t just join other players in regards to that either. It’s one reason I was disappointed to find out that there would be no SSF mode).

98% based on empirical data gathered and processed by…Vinnie.

Your ignorance is that you think being good at an action rpg is difficult all it really is being able to play a lot without dying until you inevitably find gear. Sorry to break it to you. You are not elite because you play PoE.

See you in the field of misery

Oh yeah I’m one of those in the 98%. Honestly MAINLY I don’t want to compete either way.

I see no point in rushing over something new, which has a story I’ve never experienced, has a gameplay which I want to have my fun with and just appreciate the views of the open world and all it’s wonders. I would compete but maybe when I’ve had my fun with the story and game.

NOW that being said here - all cards down even if I was competing I would most likely fail. I might end up on HC surviving up to late in the game and then make a stupid mistake and die. And I’m not sure that at 38 years old I’m as fast as some younger guys nor that I’ve got a fast enough brain, EVEN though I’m good at theorycrafting.

For 98% of us - this whole thing doesn’t concern us. But just because it doesn’t, doesn’t mean that what’s happening is fair. It’s not and we should not stand idly just because it doesn’t bother us. Keep on voicing your disaaproval! That’s the right thing to do.

In closed beta, the option to not play hardcore on the start screen was kind of obscure, so I started a hardcore druid. I got in to nightmare, playing minimally, before dying due to being bored to death. I am sure that many people who are used to hardcore playstyle will easily be able to compete in this.

Ye true this genre where you depends more by your build and gear though still you need skill too
