For the amount of entertainment we get from a video game (sometimes thousands of hours)… isn’t $70, or $90 or $100 way too little? We do realize how small that amount of money is right??
I’ve taken my kid to one of those exploitive arcades with the card you charge with “credits”. Blew $30 in 30 mins.
Parking lot carnivals charge $20 for an unlimited wristband, so any dad with 2 kids is down $40 to $60 (if he wants to ride too). This is usually over an an hour or two.
So anybody who thinks a game is overpriced at even $100 isn’t calculating that a thousand hour game is currently worth $60,000 at a conversation rate of $1 a minute in trash bowling alley arcade money.

I’ve played 20€ games that gave me hundreds of hours, some even thousands, and i’ve played 70€ AAA games that lasted 20h and thats it. The price is fine, its bad enough already that we’re going from 60 to 70€.

False.
Marketing prices the game not forum apologists.
And they priced it at $70 because after all their research this is what would have the most adoption.

“Small amount of money” is relative.

D3 gave me a good 200 hours before I had enough of it.
D2 lasted at least ten years by comparison in my regular play cycle.
Terraria is a game I have more than 3,000 hours in.
Price isn’t a gauge for how good a game is. There’s no way on earth I would be playing D4 ten years on let alone 3,000 hours.

Whether $70 is too cheap or not is besides the point.
Raising prices usually has the effect of cooling demand which leads to lower revenues overall. Blizzard has clearly planned to maximize their revenue in the long-term which means they have to keep the price at a certain point to get a certain level of demand for the game.

Is a bad argument to begin with anyways. If hours determined the price you could say this game is just worth $5 because people put in ungodly amount of hours into vampire survivor and it is a $5 game.

You are lucky man if you can afford this point of view on this topic.

Man needs more yachts can’t blame him.
I’d be very interested in knowing how much money total the average player ends up paying over their entire life in the game by the time you count deluxe/ultimate edition, all battle passes sold, and total sales in the shop.
I truly have no idea to what degree whales will balance out people like me who buy the standard edition and not much more, whether it will turn out to be $90 average, $150 average, or $500 average.

No thanks, I don’t feel like taking out a second mortgage on my house just to play a game.

It would be hilarious to see them sell the game at that price and see if these people are just trolling or honest.
Then they pay $60,000 for it and look for party and no one else is playing cause no one else bought it.

Blizzard already knows barely anyone or no one at all would ever pay that. They’re also trying to make the game more accessible for people with less income by making hardware requirements extremely modest.

I think that price for this game is high.
Not to mention agressive monetesation everywhere. They do some weird stuff.
4 days EA for 20-30$ is extremly rude for fanbase.
They kept silence about 25$ bp till the end.
It will be game with paid expansions.
I think that in modern game market you can’t sell game for 100$ price and it has paid expansions and bp. It should have maximum 2 of those and it’s extremly rude.
And btw i’m not in short with money and i can afford much more expensive things but honestly if this game will be somehow a failure and it still could be i think it will be tramendous reputation losses for Blizzard.

Was about $100 CAD after tax for standard edition for me, which is the most I’ve ever spent on a game in a single purchase, and very close to the most I’ve ever spent including all expansions, DLC, and microtransactions. But then I haven’t done very many microtransactions in my life.
it is a fair price
because this is a live support game so you might get payed expansions
optional batle pass and cosmetic if you want to suport them
price is actually good, like for a good movie in cinema
you pay here more but there are 5(6chapters if there will be hell) of story
Definitely more total content than a good movie, but less story than the same good movie.
