Who needs shouts or core skills?

I’m unsure why people keep saying barbs aren’t good for leveling.

Nice. I just hit 57. Also no shouts or core skills, but a very different build. Gonna give Elias a go in a bit here.

I use same build except WOTB over IM.

What made you pick IM?

I beat him at 59 last night with my charge barb. Also no shouts. It was riveting. I’ve played Barb pre-season and season 1 without shouts and never hated it.

Nice work. I’ve been using the Iron Skin + Ground Stomp combo as my defensives since the beta. It’s just so much more satisfying than the shouts.

EDIT: I just noticed you ran both quakes as well - I did that in S1, with the 100,000 steps boots & walking arsenal. The fact leap can be assigned a weapon is very helpful to make the arsenal bonus work. Might be something to consider as you further tweak your build.

Trial and error, mostly. I built this spec out before season 1 because HotA was making me fall asleep. I’d realized i could maintain 100% berserking uptime, and realized the damage wasn’t strong at that point in the game. When i saw what the burst damage was like, due to all the damage buffs I was stacking, i never looked back.

I recalled struggling with this dilemma back in July, and went to an old discussion where I explained my reasoning:

“Forgoing a core skill leaves us with only two arsenal attacks- Lunging Strike and Leap. Perpetual Stomping can only go on two slots- boots and amulets, and Bul-Kathos can’t go on a weapon: if we have to put Bul-Kathos on our amulet for the 50% damage boost to 4500, then we simply cannot sacrifice the boot slot.”

I am not saying your take on brawling is invalid (or mine is especially right), but this was part of the reason I ended up going with Unconstrained and no 10k steps, instead of using it and Walking Arsenal at the time. I tried it, but felt like it lent itself better to a different spec.

The Amulet slot is far too valuable to give up. There should be certain Aspects that could still be Imprinted on Unique items. Perpetual Stomping being one of them. Defensive and Offensive categories should not be able to be imprinted on Unique items. Resource, Utility, and Movement categories should all be able to be used in conjunction with Unique items.

This means you could still use say Bold Chieftain’s with Mother’s Embrace, or Perpetual Stomping with 100,000 Steps, or Anemia on Gohr’s.

Indeed, this is the crux of the issue. Whenever I try to mix double earthquake into another idea, it immediately becomes a problem of constraints. Last season I ended up relying on Giant Strides in a ring to help leap cooldown.

This season, I went without leap and am just running stomp with stun support on boots+2h. If/when I get the 100,000 steps, I’ll swap in Earthquake on the 2h to make the most of the greatly-increased stomp availability.
