Influx of players, it is the weekend so more people are getting on who were working or otherwise busy during the week. They will make adjustment to the network/servers and things will return to normal.
Same thing happens during every major update for many other games.
Twiiter, they have a bug on the login server since 1.1 session start, and working on the problem.
