49" Odyssey G9 - Horrible Performance

I have a 49" Odyssey G9 as my main monitor and the performance is sadly absolutely terrible whenever I try to play on this screen. Absolutely no issues on a 34" monitor however so my hardware can’t be the problem. (5800X3D, 3070Ti, 32GB RAM).

While playing on the 34" I get around 150-170 FPS, while on the 49" I initially have around 140 fps as well but after some time it drops to 30ish and stays there, sometimes alt tabbing fixes it for a bit but then FPS start to drop again.

I have the latest NVIDIA drivers and play on Fullscreen(Windowed), changing to fullscreen also didn’t change anything sadly. I also tested it with graphics on High and Medium, both seem to start lagging after a while on the G9.

Whenever I open the map it seems to start lagging, also alt tabbing seems to makes things worse. All of these things are completely fine to do on my 34" screen however so maybe super ultrawide screens aren’t fully supported yet?

Does anyone else have the same issue with ultrawide monitors?

I have the G9 as well, using an AMD 6800 XT. I’m not getting the issues you are. It’s a good experience for me generally.

Potentially a geforce issue running at ultrawide?

Your monitor is literally a 4k monitor . I don’t think 3070ti is a 4k card , which is quite a bit weaker than the 3000 flagship such as 3090 ti , 3090 and 3080 ti .

The high resolution pack is not optimized either , try disabling the high res texture pack
and see if it improve the performance .

Nah, have the Neo G9 and a 3090ti and have zero issues, other than the game doesn’t actually consume the full width of the monitor (even though the resolution is correct).

Same in regard to resolution

Mine’s smaller than yours - 3440x1440p144 and I am not playing with high settings at all just to get a constant 141 for my gsync. Sorry you’re going thru this, I dont think they will fully test 5120x1440 res like yours. If anything they’ll just blatantly tell you to lower everything to Low+LowFx. And if anything the engine just doesnt account those extra pixels above 3440x1440 maybe? since most people are on 2560x1440 or 3840x2160. But hopefully theres a fix since I’ve been eyeing that same monitor lol

the thing is when it works it runs perfectly fine… even on the G9 I CAN have 140+ fps, as I said.

But after some time it starts lagging, probably triggered by some in game event (I thought alt tabbing might be an issue, but going to town also seems to lower fps PERMANENTLY. Like I can have 140fps in a zone, tp to down, get an fps drop, go back to the spot before and still have like 30fps and insane lag, that doesnt make any sense.

D4 is also using up to 26GB of RAM but that has been reported plenty of times before.

5120x1440 = 7.372.800 vs 3840x2160 = 8.294.400 which means its still about 1mil pixels less than 4k…

As I wrote the performance CAN be totally fine with 140+ FPS on the G9 but then something triggers an FPS drop and the FPS permanently stay low. The 3070Ti is more than good enough to handle D4 at 5120x1440p.

Between 7m and 8m isn’t a huge gap , the point is it is still drawing a large amount of pixels compare to typical 1440p monitors , almost twice of QHD infact and getting to the 90% of 4k.

Clearly your card isn’t meant to run games at 4k . Just because u get very high FPS in some area , doesn’t mean you should always be getting the same FPS in every situation.

When the place get crowded ( such as the cities which you mentioned ) and you are invaded by mobs , with multiple players spamming skills , obviously that’s when your GPU is going to get tested.

If you are expecting to get 140 fps on an almost 4k monitor with a 3070ti on modern games , forget it . And who is to make such claims which card is to run the game ? Has Blizzard officially announced the 4k recommended GPU ? Or are you just pulling that out of nowhere . I was surprised because you spent ur budget on an excellent monitor but you have got a mid tier GPU to back it up.

And no more of those crap like " I can run {insert other games here] perfectly why can’t i run this at flawless FPS " . Different game engines .

not sure if you even read my text properly…

As I said, im not expecting to get 140+ fps in town where obviously a lot more is going on and needs to be rendered.

What I DO expect to happen is the following tho:

Lets say I’m in area A with 140 FPS, teleport to town where its lets say 80 FPS, then I go back to Area A and it should be around the same 140ish since nothing changed in the area itself, right?
Nope, instead its 30ish combined with horrible lag. If I then restart the game, go back to Area A its legit 140 FPS again so I can’t believe it’s a hardware issue…

Blockquote I was surprised because you spent ur budget on an excellent monitor but you have got a mid tier GPU to back it up. <

I had the chance to get the GPU as an upgrade for my 1080 for near MSRP back in 2021 when the prices were insane and didn’t see a reason to upgrade yet.

Sadly these insane FPS drops happen completely randomly so I can’t reproduce the problem properly. Also changing the output to run the game on the 34" screen when it starts lagging sometimes seems to fix it… in that case I’m literally standing still in a spot with laggy 30fps, change the output from the G9 to the 34" and back to the G9 and oh cool… I have a 140 FPS, lag free experience again until the next drop happens.

Explain to me how that can be a hardware issue and not a software one.

ah and btw, my hobby is simracing where I run 3x 1440p screens off my 3070ti and get 100ish fps in the games I play so yeah, thats 11m pixels btw.

There lots of reports of potential memory leaks. That could explain the degradation in performance over time. I’ve no doubt we’ll see fixes for these kind of issues. These betas will lead to lots of day 1 fixes.

No issues with performance on my G9. Just the black bars on each side that are very disappointing.

I wonder if hex codes trick works

“5800X3D, 3070Ti” . That is a mid level hardware. You did not indicate your resolution for your 34" nor 49". If your 49" is 5120x1440, all max, I would not expect even 140 FPS. If your resolution is lower and it truly hits 140 fps ,but then it drops that significantly, most likely you have a problem elsewhere its not monitor specific however, make sure you turn off freesync/gsync on the monitor , set to highest refresh rate and response time, try then.
