3080ti @ 4k @ 120 FPS, High rez disabled & lowest settings enabled. 120% GPU VRAM usage. Why?! 13GB character screen, 16GB in game. GPU only has 12GB. VYSNC and FPS cap enabled

Oooookay…wtf is goin in with this game. It says I’m using 13gb on the character screen and 16GB in game. My card only has 12GB! How the hell is this game using so much VRAM.

Welp…that’s the problem.

I think I’ve read it can go into RAM and the game actually recommends having 32 GB of RAM for ultra textures. Don’t actually understand it.

What are you using? Easiest way is to use Windows Key + G and set it up to read the cpu/gpu/vram usage from the performance options.

I just MSI afterburner. It shows me in game my usage on all components. This game is using WAAAAAAAAAAY too much VRAM.

Cap your fps and learn about damn PC parts before you crank everything and wonder why things don’t work and heat up

My FPS is capped at 120. Not sure why you would make such a statement. Like most of us here I’ve been building PCs for years. The game should not be using that much VRAM. Something is not right.

The ultra textures are what is supposed to be using that much memory, I think.

I’m going to try without. Thats crappy news. So we need a 16GB 4080 or above to use these assets. That seems…not right. Tech support peeps are saying it’s a known issue. Brutal.

What do I know /shrug

I think if the game was causing such noticeable problems consistently this would be well known. In multiple places I have seen it officially recommended to have 32 GB of RAM for those textures, which you have. Having the game run fine for a while and then a noticeable problem emerges and deteriorates seems strange.

Same here. I am seeing other complaints. I guess Ill play without the assets for a while or take a break until season 1. This usage is crazy.

** I uninstalled the high rez pack. The game is using the same amount of VRAM basically. 13-14GB. This is bad. I’ve never seen a game use more VRAM than the card actually has. So that means it’s offloading work to my RAM?

***I’m going to start with the lowest settings and see if I can find what setting is causing the issue. Hopefully the problem isn’t there at low settings. Be back in 15.

***There are post about this issue everywhere.

High VRAM usage is normal, especially in D4 where they’re using data streaming rather than load screens.

Allocating memory is not the same as utilizing memory. I’m not sure why you’re surprised that a modern game that heavily utilizes data streaming uses a lot of VRAM at 4K.

Because no other game I’ve played uses that much VRAM. Even Cyberpunk on PSYCHO doesn’t use that much. At low settings the game is using 13GB of VRAM. That’s a problem.

*I just tested low.

I put everything on low/off and my computer stopped being an airplane from this game. At least ONE of these graphical options causes this, but I’m top lazy to turn them up one by one.

20vram = ultra texture (less fps drop but will drop at some point eventually).
10vram = high texture
^
if u are using nvdia card it will set it to ultra automatically with dlss on. the game tells u “ram” instead of “vram” when checking the texture settings.

I just tested on low and I’m still getting the high VRAM use.

I’m not defending it, its clearly a console port. Look up DirectStorage

I’m just saying that max VRAM usage doesn’t indicate a problem with the game. Your game data is better off there than in your RAM or SSD.

o-o cap the fps with vsync while dlss is off ?

It is via NVCP. Always is

**Issue is there with or without DLSS. I googled and I see a lot of post with the same issue in tech support. I wonder what it is.

I had to tell a lot of people that I used a 480 mm radiator on my PC because I thought it looked cool having four fans.

Little did I know, six years later, that cooling loop would no longer be complete overkill.

most of the time it does, a ui bug and repeating texture on top of another, like if theres 2 to 10+ models stuck up on one another can cause that too.
