3 New Classes - Please add + more

Dear Devs: One thing that keeps the replay value lower or hurts it extremely in the long run…is the lack of classes/characters.

You CANNOT expect people to play the same 5 - 6 classes for a decade. People will not last past year two… at the most.

Please Add more classes and here is 3 examples that have been leaked or popular.

  • Paladin Class - please just call him the Paladin. Not a templar or crusader…no wack knock offs…just the original…like in D2. Please bring him back. Holy Class.

  • Death Knight / Undead Warrior - or whatever name you would like to give to this class. The leaks online have either pointed to this class or a holy class. This class fits right in. A dark knight that has abandoned hell’s army’s and now fight’s for the living world type thing. Or trying to redeem him/her self.

  • And a class that I would love to personally see is: The Shogun - Samurai like class. We have already pulled from eastern lore with Monks and even Assassin’s that could be viewed as a type of ninja. Can we please have a Shogun/Samurai class.
He could have abilities like % to cut a minor enemy in half or % to cut limbs of enemies. Minor enemies who are cut in half, crawl like the D3 zombies and deal 50% less damage. If an enemy gets a limb cut off, they do 25% less damage.
They could use lighting, fire and wind magic along with physical damage.
Think of the abilities you could have with this type of class.

Full list of class ideas:

Paladin (D2)
Valkyrie
War Priest
Dark Knight
Assassin (D2)
Amazon (D2)
Beast Master
Bard - Music Warrior Class
Demon Hunter (D3)
Monk (D3)
Engineer / Gun-smith - ranged gun and mech user
Summoner
Battle Mage - melee spell user
Witch Doctor
Shaman
Weapons Master - can use any weapon in the game and abilities to go with them.
Archivist - can use a wide variety of spells from all other classes, as they have a master spell book with lots of cool stuff in it.

PS: I would have loved to have an Amazon and an Assassin class over having them both combined into the Rogue… man Rogues suck…I hate these knock off classes that you keep doing Blizzard while combining multiple classes into one. Way to shoe horn yourself into less content for the players. Quit this crap.

Please add more classes or this game will be dead after a good two years … just like D3.

The party size at 4 right now is ridiculous. It needs to be 8. But, 8 won’t fit on the screen with current view setup. This game has a lot not going for it.

We are not going to get gender locked classes again. That thing is in the past.

Also, give up on the D2 Paladin. So many of their skills were auras, you are not going to have a million auras to choose from again in a game with limited skillslots. And a the very idea of a zdps class is abhorent and needs to be stamped out hard, especially in smaller 4man groups.

Lol, of course we are going to get new classes.

As for your 3 examples, I’d much prefer the death knight/unholy paladin that was part of the triune over the original paladin. Nothing about original paladin interests me. I don’t think a Shogun/samurai is going to happen as those are japanese culture and Xiansai, the asian location, is based on China. Also, cutting off limbs or enemies in half will never be a mechanic for one class as they would have to make new models and animations for every single enemy.

Then the list

  • Paladin - Overrated. Didn’t like crusader either, but it was better than paladin.
  • Valkyrie - The other contender for 6th class. After thinking about it though, given that Tyrael has possibly died in the 50 years following Diablo 3 as he turned mortal, I could see this person with angel wings being the Tyrael replacement as our angel ally carrying on the horadrim in Tyrael’s place.
  • War priest - Don’t think it’s likely as priests in the game aren’t generally combat types. They leave that stuff to the paladins and such.
  • Dark knight - An unholy version of the generic holy warrior sounds cool to me.
  • Assassin - Unlikely as we have the rogue.
  • Amazon - Same reason. Plus it’s genderlocked lore-wise and that won’t happen.
  • Beast Master - Necro will be the minion class, we don’t need another.
  • Bard - I’ve thought that a sound based class could be cool. Considering what can be done with shouts, I think sound could easily be weaponized.
  • Demon-hunter - Unlikely for the same reason as the other two, Rogue.
  • Monk - Possibly. If we end up crossing the river separating the two landmasses at the dry steppes, that puts us really close to Ivgorod which is where the monk is from.
  • Engineer/gunsmith - No. These people are using bows and crossbows, guns and complex machines aren’t a part of the world.
  • Summoner - This is one I always thought would be neat. Would likely play out something like Lost Ark’s summoner as I still think the game only needs one minion class.
  • Battle-mage - I think this is too close to sorc. They could just add more melee spells to sorc and have the same affect without having to make a new class.
  • Witch Doctor - I’d love to see my boy come back. If the expansion goes south instead I could see this happening as we make our way into the jungles. Not sure how much they’d have to modify him to fit the tone better though.
  • Shaman - Steps on the toes of the druid and sorc, so I don’t see it happening, but you never know.
  • Weapons master - Basically the class mechanic of the barbarian so they won’t add this.
  • Archivist - Not a chance. This would be so hard to balance.

Personally I think a spiritualist could be cool, but I think it’s pretty similar to the Witch Doctor so I don’t see it happening either.

the more i read that list, the more i think that’s literally the proof we will never get any new classes. i mean. we will get for sure, in dlcs or updates, patches, or maybe straight in expansions, some sort of upgrades that will give us “new classes”. but not as you or others think.

to me, it’s far easier for them (and more convenient and reasonable) to expand on the existing ones. they have a melee strong fighter, a dexterity one that doubles for ranged, a summoner with natural magic, another with blood dark magic arts, and another with elemental magic.

they can simply add for example a shield skills tree to the barbarian, and there you get your “paladin” and all his brand new thematic skills. they can add holy skills to the rogue tree, and there you get a monk. they can add poison skills to necro, and there you get a witch doctor. they can add arcane magic to sorc, and there you get a mage. to me all the examples you listed above, are exactly doable within those limits.

so they don’t need to add new classes. only to work on the archetypical ones they have in already. then add few items, and paragon boards, and voila. all the classes you wish. without adding a real single one ever.

they could do that each time they add a new part of the world map, for example. we get to visit the jungles and swamps, they add the necro poison tree, you get your wd (and related items, mojos, knives, masks, sure, why not - but all in all simple stuff, in the existing archetypes).

I’d love to see Blizzard do a Blood Knight.

I think they still plan to add some at least. The death knight is pretty unique comparatively as we haven’t had an unholy/demonic class yet. The closest we got was Demon hunter I believe. We also don’t have a shield-based class which opens up a whole new set of skills and abilities.

They aren’t going to give barbarian any kind of holy abilities. While from a gameplay perspective it would be fine, from a lore or character identity standpoint, it would be terrible. Besides, I’d much prefer new classes with new playstyles over slight modifications to older ones. Still hate that BL3 never added new characters.

demon hunter is basically a rogue. and death knight is again, usual melee fighter. sure they can add a shield wielder to the existing ones, to fill in that niche. but then they could use that (whether it be a pala templar or whatever) as base for such variations. not considering here the obvious fact necros can use shields, and again, it only takes a modification to their skills tree to get you a blood or death knight. not saying they won’t give us any new class for sure, of course. but to me seems likely they will try and use what they have created, before creating much new stuff.

That seems a little too shallow. A shield doesnt make a character into a Paladin. Both Paladin and Crusader had a defining factor that is currently missing in the game, which is auras. That is not simply covered by the barbarian with a shield and giving the barb auras would be every kind of wrong. Holy damage is also currently missing in the game, which is a again a defining factor of the standard holy warrior.

Having a melee focused fighter class doesnt mean that it can be used for all melee characters now. Even the druid can already focus on melee as well. So there shouldnt be much of a difference when having another melee character, which can also build into a mid-range caster. It already worked extremely well in Diablo 2 with all three classes being available there and they still had a fourth melee class with the Assassin.

I actually suggested an Aura for a Paladinclass:

The Book Of Verses:
The Paladin strings different Verses from his holy book together to power his aura and fill him with religious zeal.

Paladins can pick from Verses in 3 Categories ; 1 from each category:
Offensive, Defensive, & Support.
These three combine into an Aura that helps himself and his group survive against the hoards of demons.
Each category has multiple Verses to chose from, that all do different things, but only one from each category can be active at any time.

The Paladin can also choose to forgo categories to power up the ones he does use.
IE: If he chooses to drop ‘Support’, then the power of the Offense & Defense Verses he picks will be stronger.
If he drops Support and Offense, than his Defense Verse will be stronger still.
He can choose which 1-2 categories to forego, and switch out Verses, at any time.

This way, Paladins can literally customize their own Aura based on who they are grouping with and what content they are doing.
The rest of their skills will be their own attacks and such. But the Verses would be their class power. Like how the Rogue gets Combos and Necromancer gets Book of The Dead.

The Rogue is not a knock off class. It was one of the original 3 classes that the first Diablo game had.

except singing isnt really matching the paladin.
They pray, and maybe chant some litany. But they are no troubadours, that should be a different class

i obviously support that cuz i love samurai, middle age japan, swords, archery, bushido etc

Discipline priest - Support/healer with damage skills that shields/buff allies when crit.

Mesmer/Enchanter - Magic caster that use illusions and summon magic weapons and clones to damage/debuff enemies.

Verses can be chants, not only songs.

Exactly what chanting a Verse would be.

And it’s a mechanic; they would not literally be chanting anything the player can hear.

Realistically, we might get 2 more classes, maybe 3 if they can stretch it. Primary reason being overlap. Current Rogue has melee and ranged. Demon Hunter would be redundant. Witch Doctor would be redundant with Druid and Necro in the game. Etc.

I expect 3 or 4. I think we have one secret class that will come out at, or shortly after, launch. I then expect at least one for the likely 2 planned expansions roughly 2 and 4 years later. I’d imagine anything after that will be based on how the first expansion goes but they might make good enough money from season passes that they will make more than 2 expansions anyways.

There are already 2 new classes that we know of that are going to come later

  • paladin

  • amazon

but considering that we got Rogue and Sorcerer, i would have love it to have the Warrior as well

the original 3 classes of the franchise

I would have seen the warrior more like a Knight. A class that has mounting perks and battlefield tactics

for exmaple:

The warrior Knight has a special companion skill called “Squire” that fights along side him. You can gear your squire like you could gear mercenaries in previous games. You can as well select which skill the squire uses

One of the warrior’s Ultimate is called “Dubbing” which turns the Squire into a Knight for a Moment, buffing him

How do we know about Amazon? And how do we know Paladin specifically over Crusader?

Think about what you are saying, amazon is genderlocked. Not going to happen. Diablo stopped with genderlocked classes after D2.
