2X Game Speed like Youtube

Just Like YouTube.

If the player can increase the game’s difficulty, why not increase the game’s speed ?

Player moves faster, hit faster…
But
Enemies move faster, hit faster…

Pros:

  • Veterans having very little time to spend into the game (because work / family) will be delighted.

Cons:

  • Breaks the pace (unfair advantage on leaderboards)
  • Incompatible with the open world (other players not in the party).

Cons, for blizzard, and why it wont ever happen

-youd have to have an entire seconday server setup as theres no way you could have 1x and 2x players together. Cost.

Ideas kinda cool, reality of it… wont ever happen.

Its not a playback of something, its real time. Cant mix and match that with any expectations of balance at all.

Will never happen. At least not that simply. From what I understand enemies in higher tiers are faster and more aggressive, but that’s the best you are going to get.

Because it’s not a single player game… if your speed increased, you’d have to increase everyone elses and how many people actually want increase play speed? Probably very few.

I plan on standing around a lot looking at my armor. No need for speed.

This is a no from me dawg.

Pointless system, you’ll have modifiers in Nightmare Dungeons way more fun than this.

I’m assuming by endgame as it is, peoples mobility will be through the roof regardless. Not really a fan of this idea as I think it would just look absolutely ridiculous at endgame

Suggestions like this need to stop, in every way, until the game is out, end game has been widely accessed, and we know what the actual game loop is gonna look like.

D2 is slow and chunky as hell to start. Then you get some gear and forget Stamina was ever a thing. Then you get Enigma and more faster than 2x speed.

D3 is slow in the start, then you open up some skills, and by end game, you’re sipping around like a rocket.

Adding a 2x speed to a Diablo game would only ever benefit the very, very niche group of speedrunners, tryhards, or kids who wanna Naruto run to class every day. There are no positives, only downsides from those who can’t see beyond their own nose.

Uh why not just ask them to give you a character editor? Lol

Nope.

It is just a Game parameter.
You only join parties having the same parameter.

You don’t have x2 players, so no need for x2 servers.
The total number of servers (both physically and virtually) is the same, as the crowd is divided by 2 on each setup.

  • Now : 100% players on 1x
  • Tomorrow:
    • 50% players on 1x
    • 50% players on 2x
(Assuming an equivalent distribution, but we don’t care as the server setup scales accordingly)

That’s probably why Youtube never released a 2x speed button.
Oh wait, it is actually in production !
You never know until you try.

Your Armor would probably look better with a Neon trail.

Yes.

My point is:

  • Do not increase the movement speed.
  • Increase the Game Speed.

So the game stays balanced, as everything scales at once.

I would implement terrible prototypes.

I need responsible people with counter arguments to canalize my never ending imagination.

Here’s a challenge you can try

Install Golden Axe (original) and run it from a DosBox, VM or whatever…

GL fighting the sped up game, should satiate your thirst for “warmup” before D4

Thank you but no. Thx.

Blizzard ruined the franchise with that mentality and you want them to ruin their salvation attempt with the exact same thing that tainted it in the first place lol

I do like the Beat Them All genre, I used to play to Streets of Rage 2 when I was younger. :facepunch:

I’ll try that Golden Axe !

Do you just try to come up with the most out of place, bad ideas?

  • Were-crab.
  • Fangs and pointy ears.
  • Wereturtle.
  • No items above White rarity until level 20.
  • Fat necromancers because Forgotten Realms.
  • And now ‘X2 movement because Youtube’.

Guess what? X2 video works on youtube because it’s a video, not a multiplayer game being played in real time. :man_facepalming:

Not, it works because:

  • Tons of content
  • Not enough time to consume all content
  • Need to be efficient

It applies to any form of content.
Just like the anticipated access.
Time is money.

Wait for my next proposal. :grinning:

Except it does not work in a game.
Have fun coming up with horrid ideas that will never work or happen.

So, you want to fly across the zone with a few clicks and obliterate everything with a one-shot like in D3? No thank you keep that nonsense out of D4.

You would be surprised how much horrid ideas can be degenerated to give birth to excellent ideas.

The process of ideation is all about transforming crap into gold.

You fear power creep.

Increasing Game Speed is balanced.
The game simply runs faster, thus displays things faster.
The balance is unchanged.

This the same game as you know it.
But in 2X mode, everything is accelerated.
Players and monsters.

This is an interesting challenge, because in the real world, time is not accelerated, so you need very fast reflexes.
