Got to keep milking that cash shop.
That depends not only on data we dont have, but on expectations we dont have either. So we cant draw conclusions, which means its useless to even try
We can draw conclusions based on the data we have, and those conclusions dont look good for S8
Actually, your arguments hold up to their counters. You’re comparing like to like, on a sizable platform.
Your problem (which I think only 1 post brought up) is time of day. It’s currently 6pm ET, and 3pm PT.
Can’t really do a valid comparison yet, unless you have hourly data from past season launches… unlikely, right?
The data we have is that Season 8 has approximately half the number of players (compared to Season 9).
This can be extrapolated from SteamDB. https://steamdb.info/app/2344520/charts/
But how many players are on Steam Versus Battlenet?
How many are on Steam versus consoles? We don’t know.
So again, it’s true there are fewer players. But we don’t know how many there are in total.
Half a million, for example, is still 500K.
we dont even compare data from a full day lol. the season is out since a few hours lol.
Fine, we can wait till tomorrow. Numbers are dropping every hour but its a valid concern
Oh, my goodness, I’m completely wrong…
The numbers show a 10-20% increase in players.
I look more closely at the data and compare Tuesday, January 21st (start of Season 7, 16k players on Steam) with data from Tuesday, April 29th (18k players).
The peak player count I initially compared was on Sunday, January 26th (37k), giving me the result of “half.”
We need to compare this Sunday with the Sunday of season 7 to be completely sure.
Luckily they have you to offer counter points to any negative opinion. Maybe start labeling your posts as fact checks?
Possibly this is the “Spiritborn depression” or, more likely, fallout from a wobbly VoH launch, but also it was peak EA season on PoE2. Probably in reverse order of impact, considering it was day 1.
Should be interesting by the weekend then, lead to interesting hypotheses.
…
Still, time of day… a lot of North Americans are just getting home or still at work for a couple hours.
Could be day 1/ week 1 of S8 sees an overall spike vs S7… lots of guesses as to why, if it happens.

I just logged in to Diablo IV - Season 8 and purchased the Premium Battle Pass, and as I was browsing through the new interface I noticed the Battle Pass Game play expires in 62 days!? What the hell is this!?
I haven’t even started playing, but this must be a typo error because all Premium Battle Passes for Diablo 3 and 4 are always 90 days plus - NOT 62 days / 2 months! D4 Season game play is always 3 months. I never seen anything less than that. We are all paying for 3 months of season game play, not 62 days, Blizzard!!
If this is correct, along with the grind hell game play in Diablo IV, then it seems Blizzard screwed everyone out of a month of game play big time! Again, if this is correct it would be an unacceptable nerf to our game play time, which should be 3 months plus, and now this new season 8 is one month shorter and cost the same! This is definitely NOT ACCEPTABLE!
I sincerely hope this “62 days” is a typo error in the game, otherwise I will be very disappointed and pissed off!
I don’t want to be rushing to complete quests and achievements, and if this is correct we would be getting totally screwed while paying the same amount for only 2 months of game play instead of 3 months! This is NOT right! It’s not about money with me, it’s the principle! I have been very supportive since the game launched, but this would be very wrong of Blizzard to do to all D4 players, and this nerf of taking away 1 month of game play while charging the same amount to all D4 players raises some very BIG red flags!
Dear Blizzard, I hope this is just an error in Diablo IV because it would be seriously messed up if you pulled this type of BS on players and nerfed game play time while charging us the same amount for only 2 months of game play instead of getting 3 months of game play! There is NO reason for such messed up actions to take away game time from players paying for premium and higher game passes! NONE! Get it together and clarify this issue, Blizzard D4 Team. Again, I hope this is just a typo error in the game. Thank you.
On another note, I’m looking forward to seeing how D4 Season 8 turns out. I hope it’s good. - JJ -
Because the launch issues keep coming back. I got 3 teleport freezes on my high end pc within 2 hours. New season, old issues.
Ok, we will wait untill Monday then
You mean… the end of the depression?
The numbers are up compared to the previous season.
It’s not a significant amount… in fact, they could just be new Steam users… but it’s still unexpected.
More seasons, more battlepass sales. D4:I coming soon to a server near you.
Well… Immortal releases a battle pass every month and content updates every two weeks… so…
If this extra income gives us more content… I think I’d like it.
I should’ve trimmed the quote more - I was reacting to the S7 numbers, not S8.
I mean… every season after the expansion should have fewer players than the expansion itself. That’s normal.
At the same time, every season should have fewer players than the previous season. That’s normal.
Season 8 has fewer players than the expansion, but strangely, the data so far points to more players than Season 7. That’s not normal…
Roadmap says April to July
thanks for remembering D4, while you enjoy LE.
I noticed that too. It’s quite short. It’s not really here nor there for me. I don’t mind that they mix it up a bit provided there’s sensible reasons for it. Cant see the reasoning yet myself in this instance.
