2 copies but can't play with family

So let me get this straight. I have bought D4 and VoH on Battle.net. Then I bought it on steam thinking my son could play with me using one of the copies. Sounds like this doesn’t work. I can’t family share my steam version so there is no one I can play the game with my son despite buying the original and the expansion on two different systems.

Gone are the days when customer came first. Now are the days of making people buy the game as many times as possible with little to no benefit.

That doesn’t sound correct.

I have a steam copy and a battlenet copy and I was able to play with my son when he was here just fine.

Let me do some testing here and verify this, brb.

Nope, still works. Both games need to be in game and in the world in order to connect. Also need to be same tier if possible or a tier both can play on as well as same realm. (both in season or both in eternal)

Damn near crashed my system to run two copies of the game at the same time, but I was able to.

I will upload a video (if it recorded properly) to prove it if you need to.

I was running one game from the Battlenet client and one game from the Steam client on the same PC at the same time. I normally don’t do that. I had to increase my swap file to even allow it to run. Even then I was maxed out on the physical ram running the two copies together.

OKAY.

One conditional possibility:

If your steam account is linked TO THE SAME BATTLENET ACCOUNT as what your battlenet app is using, then this won’t work! In my case, I’m using my alternate battlenet account linked to Steam, not my main account!!

I actually bought the steam copy solely for the purpose of helping to troubleshoot things like this. lol

Blizzard will allow you to buy copies for different platforms and link them under one Battlenet account if you want, but this means only one of them can be active at a time since they are when linked, they are in essence one game account. Despite buying it more than once.

That’s the rub. I do have them both linked to my bnet account. Just a lot frustrating that when I’m using one copy my son can’t use the second copy on another computer 6 feet away from me. I BOUGHT two copies.

Well you have to think, that when you got two different platforms but they’re both accessing the same account, the data will have trouble being reconciled if you’re doing two different things on the same account. So obviously they’re going to only allow you to login one session at a time regardless how many platforms you’ve paid for. There are people who have bought a copy for every platform and still have only one account.

I would reach out to sales support to see if they can migrate the second copy to another bnet account (obviously set it up first), or worst case, refund, then repurchase under the other account.
