12 active skills instead of only 6?

Why doesn’t Diablo 4 have a system similar to Diablo 2 where I can press the L2 button and have access to 12 active skills instead of only 6?

Because the game revolves around 6 active skills instead of 12.
Which is perfectly fine I suppose, makes it easier when it comes to balancing.

Most builds in ARPG’s end up focusing most power onto one or two skills anyways. Also even if it were increased, I can’t see it going to 12. I think the most it would go up to would be 7 or 8.

Check out the pulverize build for druid… lol. and the thorns build for necro. And I at min want 7 skills… just to keep a utility (movement)/ultimate.

Double the skills means all skills would have to be nerfed by 50% to scale with the increased buttons.

More skill choices matters more than available skills to me plus if they make it less clunky you can swap out any skill on the fly… no need to get out of combat or back to town you can learn your character and go on i need “X” skill right now and swap it in.I didn’t reach ultimate’s in the beta so i can only guess it would feel cramped so maybe a slot for that but idk can’t say how much it matters,if i had to get out of combat to swap it in yes needs a slot if not it could be okay as is… just nees to be called something better than ultimate.Reminds me of immortal…*shudders.

I wish there was a specific, 7th slot for ultimates.

I do feel like I need 1 more skill in my builds. And I also feel like the ultimates are not really worth their enormous cooldown when.

7 or 8 is all it needs. If you are using an ultimate skill on your bar right now it’s basically a 5 skill game. But really still a 2 skill game because 3 of those skills will likely be precast as buffs/debuffs and refreshed only for longer fights.

I personally like that there are only 6 skill slots. If there were 12 than there really wouldnt be much choice making in the skill trees as you could get most of them. Plus, I dont feel I need skill bloat. There are MMOs I play that some classes have like 4 bars worth of skills but really the rotation only uses a few skills and the rest is filler that you almost never use.

I would like an ultimate skill slot though that everyone gets instead of it being a choice between ultimate or regular skill.

I agree, having the ultimate skill as its own slot outside of the 6 would be ideal. Other than that every felt fine at 6.

This statement is made completely moot by understanding that only the skills you dump points into are going to be significant. All others will serve merely as utility or minor guards/buffs for the player.

There is not one “nerf” required for a game that gives you full-time access to every skill, so long as cooldowns and a point-allocation system exist.

In PoE, there is nothing preventing the player from carrying skill gems in their bag and swapping them into gear as they please. Does this present a balancing problem? No.

This other reply cracked me up.

Has any Lost Ark player ever actually complained that their class comes with “too many skills”? It does not matter if some are stronger than others. Rely heavily on the handful that are strong, rely lightly on the remaining skills in the downtime. This mentality that everyone should have their gameplay experience gimped because some guy’s brain is overwhelmed by having too many options at their disposal is ludicrous.
