More than anything, I’m just wondering if this is intended design/if anyone else is experiencing the same thing.
I’d saved up 30 pincushion dolls (for no real reason, Andariel is a well balanced and engaging encounter smiles) and decided it was time to bite the bullet. I’ve been noticing that the number of ancestrals that I was receiving from all sources over the last couple of days had been quite low, so I decided to use this as an opportunity to take a tally.
Not only did I kill Andariel 10 times though, I also got a Belial spawn in there. Based on that, we’re looking at a drop rate of ancestrals of nearly as low as 1 in 70 in torment 3. Obviously this is a fairly small dataset, so there’s a large margin for bad RNG, but by torment 3 an item level 750 piece is basically useless to me.
Is anyone else experiencing a disproportionately low number of ancestrals in T3? It’s truly far more common for me to receive 0 from a boss kill or whisper than it is to receive 1, let alone more, and it’s really harming my potential for dopamine farming.
Haha and to prove me wrong , I just had a Single and Double GA drop from the one kill .

Still from 9 kills at Torment 3, thats a very poor ratio.
Of course to restore balance, the two star is Mothers Embrace and the one star is Ebon Piercer.
1st Andariel kill on T1 I got a shako with the GA I wanted (CDR) then I took the spark from the season rep cache and Lilith 1st kill and did a random blacksmith cache and got the starless ring with the GA I wanted… (+core skills)
I am officially done with needing mythics in S8 which is a good thing because the legendary rune drop rates suck.
Also… I’ve gotten probably 250+ boss kills on T1 and T2 and that first Andariel kill is the only mythic drop I’ve seen.
Ancestral drops are atrocious for me too, not just T3 but also the T4 bosses I can handle at the moment. I only have a single ancestral unique over 2 characters, and that one has rubbish stats so I don’t use it.
In the campfire chat, i remember one of them saying something about gearing up with normal uniques and then farming Belial for ancestrals… so probably working as intended.
How the hell am I supposed to gear up wit Belial if he hardly ever shows himself, even with the urn maxed? I got 3 reputation caches last night from bossing, just 2 Belial ambushes. Those cashes give better loot than the bosses, seems like ancestrals every time. Nothing I can use unfortunately.
If you go into boss runs expecting upgrades, you’re going to be disappointed.
I’m assuming if you’re looking for ancestrals that you’re 8/8 on all your gear. If not, get there. Take advantage of more guaranteed GAs from tributes and hordes for better roll chances. Farm pits even if you aren’t able to push your main 5 glyphs up because the paragon xp is still beneficial for more power creep.
This seems to be the best bet for me for GAs this season, so far anyway. The loot drops at the end of the pits have had the most stars for me. Could be RNG or just the fact I am noticing it. The XP is helpful too.
I agree that finally killing a major boss after two minutes of dodging on T3 or T4 yielding 0 GA items is demotivating. Makes me wonder why I bothered to try it on T3/4 if I could have got the same junk on T1.
yea pits + obol gambling or the horde chest are the best methods for ancestral GAs. Last season they reduced mythic drop rates this season they seem to have added into it with unique drops making GAs rare. Blizzard is out of touch.
It’s all about speed and time management to be completely honest. If I can’t kill the lair bosses on t3/4, but i can on 2, I am not gonna save those materials, I’m gonna burn through them all on t2 for the quick chance at upgrades, If I don’t get them, then I move onto farming more or doing other activities that I can improve upon.
I am to the point now that I can kill all the lair bosses on t4 and have killed way more in t4 than the others but the only 2 mythics I have found this season were from T1 and T2.(and neither were usable for me)
I saw a character today with and 4GA Shako, 3GA Starless and 2GA Doombringer. I’m assuming there is an exploit or something happening as I can’t seem to even single GA Mythics to drop in my last literally hundreds of Boss runs.
