Went to go fight Corlin Hulle (lvl 45), says a wrathful phantom killed me (ghost with wave proj), i’ve never been chunked that hard before, even elite corpsebow wouldnt take more than 30% my hp.
ok. Is there more to this story, or just a sad moment? Do you have a replay that we can dissect?
Yes, apparently there are other post talking about how this mob is many levels higher than your current and 1 shotting players offscreen, and possibly displaying incorrect level. So he could have been lvl 55+ for me but i only see lvl 45.
Oh yeah, monsters that are much higher level than you get big dmg bonuses. I’d recommend farming up a bunch of cheat death potions just in case you run into one, then be ready to slam a scroll of evasion when your cheat death procs.
Right, but it says he same level as me. Bosses don’t even chunk me that much not to mention i didnt see any projectiles or attacks coming at me besides wrathful phantom attack.
Did you have potion of death evasion? Scroll of Evasion? If not, lvl 45 isn’t that much to get back to, and now you know to be cautious of those mofos.
Today was my first time I ran into this guy and he one-shot me off-screen from 90%+ HP. I was only level 13, but still that was nuts because it happened in a split second.
My character’s mind was literally blown. Hahaha.
This just happened to me as well. Ran into Corlin, showed level 36 (my level), I had full life about 60% fortify up and then suddenly dead with nothing to tell me what happened. Makes me rethink playing HC. I actually enjoy HC, but if there is something this breaking god knows what else I could come across that would wreck the game. Dieing to me running into a world boss fight half-cocked, yeah kill me. Letting too many enemies swarm me, alright, that’s on me. But this, this is BS and having to create a new character because of someone elses error, hell nah.

How was it someone else’s error that you weren’t properly geared for HC? You should be happy that you got a good death, most of the other threads here are about DCs. Gear for the worst-case scenario next time instead of the best, use potion of death evasion, etc etc.
This mob was previously shown as 10+ levels higher, but i dont think hes scaling properly or the 3 forms he breaks into are still using higher level stats. The butcher doesn’t even hit half as hard as this mob. And countless players are posting about this mob ‘Corlin Hulle’ one shotting them off screen. There isn’t a gear issue.
