∞ Infinity Damage

PTR - For those who haven’t seen it, in Rob’s new video, he has what looks like maybe a thorns/ww barb doing what looks like 1.1 nonillion damage. After a little bit of compounding damage, the numbers convert to the ∞ infinity symbol ∞.

What I find hilarious about this is that someone at Blizzard had to code that symbol to appear if damage scaled that high.

I mean… it’s already many magnitudes higher than the HP of any fathomable enemy. Why it doesn’t just hit a Final Fantasy style 99999 cap somewhere is silly!

I’m not going to give some dude more clicks, but that sounds funny.

Blizzard Math: When all else fails, to infinite and… we’ll just stop there.

A Chinese player came up with it. Rob translated his guide. Orange tempers 4tw lol

Anyways clearly bugged   :joy:

I think that’s the real reason for the PTR, to find broken builds before they go live.

I’m surprised there aren’t more like this with such big changes about to happen.

Yes, credit where it’s due. 透了个明 & 咸鱼小罗 found the bug. Pronounced Tòule gè míng & xián yú xiǎo luō if anything online is to be believed.

Because Blizzard will normalize the name, we shall call him Tom.

Most likely it was just in whatever library they use for formatting the numbers and nobody actually thought about it.

Do high damage numbers mean more stress on the servers or is that a myth?

If they release the build as is, we can give you an answer.

Raxx put out a video a few days ago of a rogue spinning to win build, something double dipping maybe on vulnerable and critical strike damage but It could be that is working as intended. Even when he took off a few pieces of good gear it was still strong.

To be fair. Most people don’t look for infinite loop. There’s a select few. The PTR is a great place to test for it considering Mark the cheat exist.

Going to have to invent a new system of math notation to display the damage numbers next season.

Barbillions → Blizzillions.

hey leave my female barb out of this! haha yeah thats my barbs name

Memes aside, it brings up the question with the stat squish…did they test this internally? Rob doesn’t have some secret, and he didn’t design the game.

Their nonsensical “Only Buffs, no Nerfs” strategy is going to struggle with infinity dmg :woman_shrugging:

Imagine how much damage Rob would be doing if they didn’t do the stat squish.
