Xbox One Multiplayer lag!

My brother got it for Xbox One and we’re attempting to play together, but there’s significant lag between us.

If I host, he lags and cannot use pretty much any abilities. If he hosts, I lag and suffer those problems.

Xbox one network statistics shows him at 38 Mbits/sec download and 10 Mbits/sec upload while I’m at 68 Mbits/sec down and 10 Mbits/sec up. We both have 0% packet loss.

Is there any fix or any remedy for this situation?

The lag you are likely experiencing is less a connection issue and more of a processing/system resources issue. The biggest culprit is area damage. If either of you is playing a build that utilizes area damage, it adds an overwhelming amount of info to be processed by the console. If your build doesnt require area damage to work, try insuring that you have no area damage rolls on gear and remove any paragon points spent on area damage.

Second issue is that all character data is loaded in the host’s console, including everything that is in character stashes. Do some major housekeeping and remove as many items from your stash as possible. This will free up some needed RAM for processing. Additionally, unequip cosmetics and pets if you do not actually need them (like in grs). Avoid opening too many portal realms that stay open (cow level, uber bosses). All of these things chew up RAM and system resources, leading to bogged down processing that lags gameplay.

I’m no stranger to the PC version, but this problem is from level 1’s and fresh characters. Now, he does have alts and I’m unsure of the condition of his stash, but it’s a brand new install on my xbox with 0 alts, and 0 in stash, and he’s getting lag just in town on a level 1 wizard while I’m host.

Unless of course, he needs to clean up his stashes as it’s still affecting him even when I host.

Stash affects everyone in online play. If his is totally cluttered and yours isn’t. Then that can still be problems because it’s reading and applying the memory of stash to all.

according to him, he cleaned up his characters down to 2, and the stash/inventory on both is empty. Any other ideas?

Old game running on old engine. PC also runs into problems. There are certain skills that also cause lag, like Rend when manually cast or twisters. WW barbs in general cause lag, even supports.

Star Pact doesn’t run into that problem.

If he is lagging in town, after ensuring a cleared stash, then the problem is likely due to the actual connection. This could be anything from not port forwarding with IPV4 connection, either of you using wifi connection (bottlenecked bandwidth or interference), either of the routers/modems in use, and of course it could be something to do with yours/his internet service provider, their servers, or network congestion. Also network congestion with either yourahis home network like too many people using the connection or too many devices connected.

Lag in town only ever happens with a poor connection.

According to your original post, bandwidth and packet loss appear fine. I would look into if you have IPV4 or IPV6 from your ISP. IPV6 does not require port forwarding, but depending on your router/modem you may have to enable UPnP (universal plug and play). If you have IPV4 you may also be able to enable universal plug and play at your router, but it is likely you will have to manually setup port forwarding. To get the list of ports that need to be forwarded you can get the console specific ports from xbox website. to get ports specific to the game, you can try searching port forwarding on the developers site or look in their FaQs section.
