Would you play D4 if unlimited Paragon?

Currently, moving towards season 5 in D4, level is still capped at 100.
D3 used to limit level to 60, and no paragon.
The expansion for D3 opened up level 70 and unlimited paragon.
D4 has no progression after level 100, no sense of achievement or purpose.
Im wondering if more players would play D4 when they uncap the paragon limit. I hope so.

Still hard pass for me.

This is a core issue with the game then. Apparently, they do not have enough fun end game activities to keep people interested or challenged. On top of that, it seems the loot hunt isn’t that good if people are wanting unlimited paragon to get a sense of power progression.

Unlimited paragon was a band-aid for several severely broken issues with D3. If I want the eternal hamster wheel, I have D3. There is no need for me to drop more money to do the same thing.

Too bad they didn’t take what worked in D1, D2, and D3 and incorporate fun new activities to make a really fun experience.

The problem with uncapped paragon in D4 is that the paragon is part of your actual character level and that being tied as well to monster scaling. They would have to unglue character leveling from paragon leveling to first do that, then they would have to rework the entire paragon board system, as uncapping it and being able to eventually take every multiplicative board on a class on top of slotting all multiplicative max level glyphs, with all the additive nodes would break the game when damage numbers on certain builds are already in the billions and trillions.

Now I do have a feeling that they are planning a paragon rework as part of bringing load outs to the game, as the original system no longer fits the launch vision of the game to have more friction to higher level respecs, a throwback to Diablo 2 making character builds more about meaningful choices and sticking to them. They could simplify the boards to basically be load out choices like each category of Paragon in D3, and restrict the number of points into each node choice that are not just the core attributes. Example being the core board that you receive at 50 could be the 4 attributes as white nodes each costing a single paragon point with maybe a couple of blue and yellow nodes costing 2 and 3 each. Legendary nodes on further boards could cost 4. Each board would have a glyph node for inserting your glyphs, where the secondary abilities could just require a raw stat, that increases the requirement based on how many boards you have placed down (like how secondaries work on the rare nodes currently) to encourage adding more points into stats.

If they did something like I mentioned, I could see uncapped paragon as a possibility, as then they could control the power creep better with capping the amount of boards and glyphs used, thus controlling the overall multiplicative bonuses class builds have access to (unlike current, where meta for many builds is just to path to glyph nodes and legendary nodes to stack multipliers).

No I will not play D4.

I’m playing S4 in D4 currently. Got all classes to lvl 100 and set up “working Builds” on all of them. Killed Uber Lilith solo and so on.

The game improved a lot, and actually there is a lot of finetuning on your gear once you reach “max level” now. Tempering/masterworking and so on.

There is also “GR like” Pits now.

Is D4 perfect? Of course not, but it goes in the right direction.

Regarding unlimited paragon in D4, as mentioned before - in the current state of the game it wouldn’t work, and I would also say it is not needed.

However, I don’t like that mainly bugged builds are on top and class balance is not really good. Internal quality control is still bad (but I guess they are aware, since there is no real leaderboards yet)

I have recently picked up d4 again to give it another chance because i heard good things about season 4. For the first time i have reached lvl 100, but to the question if i would play d4 more with unlimited paragon, then no. At its core it is a very boring game to me, nothing stands out, i had some fun spikes throughout leveling, but from lvl 60-100 it already felt like a grind. Some said well you have to go through it because the game starts when you are lvl 100. But it just felt the same to me after lvl 100, i dont like any of the activities; pit, gauntlet, nightmare dungeons are all variants of badly layout floors like keeps, barracks or caves or such. I dont like the items, never get a wow effect, even the most sought after shako item is just a +4 to all skills buff.

I don’t buy Diablo 4 on launch not because it doesn’t have unlimited paragon, but it did many things i don’t like.

So yeah, even if D4 has unlimited paragon now, i still won’t buy it.

My feelings exactly. I don’t think you need unlimited paragon at this stage. With a season being 3 months long there are plenty of things to keep you entertained, including fine tuning your gear. D4 has been improved immensely since it was released.

No, but I’ll play more D3 if they add the altar and fissures to NS! As it is, I’m sitting out the seasons I don’t enjoy… and may not even play next season even if the theme is one I enjoy… busy with our house build and eventual move so little time for a fresh start. Having the altar and fissures in NS would have been great for such times.

My core issues with D4 are very simple…

  1. Even less stash space compared to D3
  2. Same limited number of character slots as D3 (mostly based around 2x slots per class) though arguably worse than D3 since there’s no extra slots from buying a Digital Deluxe version or similar.
  3. Character names limited to a maximum of 12 characters.
  4. Switching builds is not as easy
  5. Most of the classes are repeats.

And more importantly, I’ve had enough of beta testing Blizzard’s ARPGs to find out at the end that they leave the game nerfed for non-ladder/seasonal play. In D2/R they’re missing rune words only available in seasons, and in D3 it’s missing fissures and the altar. I’ll sit out D4 until a massive sale and when I feel like doing the campaign.

There is a “typo” there… For sure there is some corporate fun somewhere out there…

No, I would not. Generally, I don’t play so called live service games. As in games that simply disappear when they shut off the servers. I have MMOs for that.
When I realized that D3 was that type of game, I swore, but it was too late, I had already bought the game. Won’t make that mistake again.
Later on watching them make the exact same mistakes that they first did with D3, that was definitely it, especially when they copied code that contained a very famous bug with the game (the one stopping us from getting more storage space).

Also, the game honestly simply looks boring to me. So, thanks but no thanks.

After 12 yrs, 40k hrs in D3. Absolutely not another unlimited paragon grind. The chase should be something else. More skilled oriented, less paragon type numerical chase or gear chase for me.

But we have paragon cap at 20.000, Diablo 3 isn’t unlimited.

40k hours is a lot… how do you play so much but only have 7k paragon?
Several times more /played than me but you didn’t level up?
Even bots have 20k paragon in 40k hours, bro you wasted your time and complain that the game is too easy, complain about the chase, but you didnt chase, so whats the issue here?

More than 1 account.

I would definatly play D4 more if there was no paragon cap, as it is now the game pretty much ends when I hit level 100, only power to gain after that is the small increases from gear upgrades.

I dont think that’d work, paragon in d4 isn’t infinite stat points, it’s a grid of upgrades. Once you finish your paragon boards, you finished them

Ya it is. It would be 9 hours a day, every single day for 12 solid years.

i would buy d4 if they did the following:

remove MTX
create an offline mode
allow trading
allow modding
sold the rights to diablo to a better company

That’s a very long list. Could you be more specific?

I’m not trying to defend D4 (as in my opinion it is getting better):

  • MTX is only for cosmetics, I didn’t buy anything there, can play just fine

  • we are not getting one for D3, imagine getting an offline mode for D4…

  • you can now trade any item that is not Uber Uniques (I didn’t trade anything though, as I don’t like to search on external sites/Discords for items - and I have some 500M+ gold worth items in my stash to sell…)

  • no offline, no modding, kinda comes hand in hand

  • all companies are kinda putting Share holders on the first place, not their workers or consumers, it might not even help selling the Diablo rights to a “better” company
