Would you like for Blizzard to make a Diablo movie?

If so which time frame would you like to see?

I’ve always thought that a Diablo movie showing the events of the Dark Exile, the creation of the Horadrim and soulstones, and the Horadrim’s hunt for the three Prime Evils would make for a great Diablo movie.

I don’t understand how they screwed up the WOW movie…i got a feeling there is too much meddling from Blizz side.

Yes, at least story-wise I have the best cards to produce a dark, serious and profound fantasy flick.
But and this is the crux, how do you implement it.

So all these new movies we get currently, are mostly too overloaded, too fast, too inauthentic, too short in the narrative, etc…

I wouldn’t like the way it was done in the WoW movie, for example. It shouldn’t be an action movie.
Maybe even a size and scope to expand it over a series of films with real depth in heroes, and the proximity to the world.

This overloaded scrubbing down and fast cuts and constant action and stupid sayings… I don’t need.
I’d rather take the flair of “In the Name of the Rose” and not much more speed and tell a really great story that comes to mind again and again and you like to look at even 20 years later.
And that packed into many hours of film and a whole series to even get to a masterpiece.

If I get here ridiculous preschooler fantasy and the Diablo world is unwound and that still half fairy tale instead of dark, brutal (but not senseless stupid put on and exaggerated brutality is meant), scary and dark and above all authentic and serious… yawn.

That is crucial for me. Such a film is guaranteed to be feasible and the original is strong. But as so often the danger is great that it is not a Braveheart, but rather so The Mummy or even B-movie quality.

And I’d rather take no film at all than have to look at a laughing stock, or an exuberant action flick that leaves me zero immersion and could hardly be more fake.

I would look forward to a Diablo movie or series. But please not a series…Should be movies and long movies at that.
And the question also arises do we do as we see it here in the video, or do we do it with real actors and then a lot of CGI and so…

Movie, no. Mini-series, sure.

The main problem is that, from the player perspective, the franchise’s storytelling has been rather mediocre with what class you play holding no real meaning. To me, this would essentially mandate creating a persona for each class and subsequently giving them a time to shine individually and collectively. Yet, that very idea will also likely be perceived as anathema by purists. Coincidentally, a lot of Diablo mechanics actually wind up bad for storytelling, so you should certainly expect each character to either know their various iconic skills or come up with them on the fly.

I suppose there’s some freedom if you draw from the written works or cover something like the rise of the Skeleton King, but I’d objectively argue it’s not really Diablo if he isn’t being fought at some point and not just shoehorned in.

Aren’t they making an anime style diablo series for netflix?

We should just start with a Diablo 1 movie and make each one as epic as their game.

In theory, sure. In reality, probably not.

I doubt anything they put out would be nearly as good as Diablo 2 cinematics. Game movies are often ruined in some way or another and it just hurts my perception of the series. Granted, D3 already did damage, so I guess it doesn’t matter too much, haha.

You have movies like the new Mortal Kombat, which show a lot of promise in the opening, then turn into typical, only mildly amusing representations with mediocre acting. Then you have Castlevania show on Netflix, which I actually liked quite a bit. I know it was a cartoon, but for the most part, the acting (voice acting) was very well done and actually more believable than most real life actors in instances like this.

With that said, if they could get the proper teams to act/direct it, it could be great. Usually these things have no-name actors and actresses involved, but then you have games like Far Cry, that have big name actors in them, so perhaps the other side of it could happen.

They could easily make the movie about Diablo 1 and have the main character be the warrior, which is a named character, since he is the prince and the one to posses the soulstone and become Diablo. That or they could do it totally different than the games and have it be about events prior to Diablo 1 or even sanctuary being made.

Not if it turns out as horrible as ‘Warcraft’. I still want my money back from that travesty.

Actually a movie(s) depicting the original horadrim creation and their hunt for the three evils wouldn’t (or at least shouldn’t) run into the issues that you described. For starters most of the original horadrim were mages, so there’d be no need to try to include any of the classes from the games except perhaps the sorceror. That’d also rule out the need of creating personas as some of the members are already known and named (For example Tal-Rasha, Jered Cain, Zoltun Kulle, etc.).

I have never played WoW so I do not know anything about it, why do people rage about the movie?

  • I liked the movie and it seems to have made Blizzard a lot of money.

This was my thing when I watched the WoW movie. So for me it wasn’t that bad.

Because it had probably average acting or sub-average. I did enjoy watching it, but only once. Others probably because it did what many adapt-to-film movies do. Chops up the source and stuffs a lot of pieces into a 2 hour+ runtime and sticks a lot of things in for fan service here and there randomly, and sometimes gets plot points wrong, in wrong places or done by wrong characters… Things like that. Personally I wouldn’t know of any errors in WoW since I don’t play the game, but I know this happens to other movies about games/books/comics, etc.

Just a thought.

Sin War with a LotR style prelude that covers the eternal conflict, the love affair of Lilith and Inarius, the creation of Sanctuary, the birth of the Nephalem, and how Inarius controlled their powers. A little 10-15 min sequence to set up the how’s and why’s of now(the current movie). All in Blizzard Cinematic CGI.

I played and thought the movie was fine. Would have been better if he could have kept in some good plot points or had his trilogy.

I do think they need to get their shiz together again and finish these games before even thinking about a Diablo movie though.

I would like to see what happened at the begining of everything. Anu and the battle whit Tetameth, how heaven and hell formed and all the demon lords and arch angels. Then the ethernal conflict, the escape of Lilith and Inarius whit the renegade angels and demons. The rise and fall of the nephalem. Every thing that happened before where D1 takes up the story, all the way where D3 ends. And a little sneek peek of the aftermath.

A cartoon (or “anime”) in the style of Netflix Castlevania (although without all the sex) would be my preference for something like this.

That’d probably require a series in all honesty rather than a movie. Too much had happened from the Beginning (Anu and Tathamet’s battle) to the end of Diablo 3 RoS, that trying to fit that in a movie or three would leave out some crucial parts imo.

Movie team is separate from game teams.
