Would like to see D4 Sorceress use Arcane

Title says it all.

I loved my time in Diablo 2 playing the Sorceress, but a part of me always felt like she should’ve been called the Elementalist. The Diablo 3 Wizard introduced Arcane as an actual element of spellcasting, and I fell in love with that. I would love to see the Diablo 4 spellcaster having Arcane spells again.

I know in terms of lore and story that the Wizard is a renegade for practicing it, that arcane magic is dangerous and such, but I’d hope that with whatever time has passed between D3 and D4, that her example of heroism caused it to become a more acceptable and even standard magical practice wtih the mages of Sanctuary.

I’m so done with pink and purple though…

(regardless, Li Ming called herself a wizard because she essentially invented arcane in the diablo lore; doesn’t really make sense to give it to other people. The sorcerer masters don’t teach that)

I don’t think she invented it. She stole it from the depths of forbidden sections of the libraries of other mage clans.

Eh. I much prefer the elementalist type of sorc from D2. I didn’t really care for the wizard in D3. I’m glad they’re ignoring arcane magic.

she did create new spells though: like mirror image, and slow time. The masters were confused with those skills. Never seen before.

She didn’t exactly ‘create’ the concept of arcane, but she did find a use for what other sorcerers thought to be uncontrollable magic.

The point stands though, it doesn’t make sense to give it to other sorcerers, unless you rename them wizards and make them followers of Li Ming’s teachings.

aint diablo is about defeating the evil?
i dont think arcane actually fits.

However, new idea: Arcane/Holy archer!

Similar to D2 Amazon; but different elements instead of frost/fire archer and lighting/poison javelin.

You can follow the teachings without taking on the name of Wizard though. A name is a name. The power is what matters.

Personally, I’d be fine if arcane was something as simple as a cosmetic skin for other skills. I don’t think we need Archon or Slow Time or Mirror Images. I just liked it for the aesthetic and the lore aspect of it.

The lack of channeling options is the main issue imo.

I hate elemental magic and support your cause for the Arcane. So far, no class appeals me in Diablo 4. Probably they won’t come up with another magic class as the 5th, probably will be another combat one, or combat magic like the assassin… So I’m an organ. So far I’ll stick with a poison Rogue and pray for a necromancer done properly in an expansion (where is the wand, D3?!).

By the way, the Wizard has one of the best mechanics in all the 3 games so far.

Considering the fact that there’s PvP, nope. Don’t wanna see that purple thing again :stuck_out_tongue:, I mean here are (SO FAR) the damage types one has to look out for: Physical, Earth, Fire, Lightning, Cold, Poison, Shadow, I’d actually say that’s enough and not going a “full retard” mode with like 10 damage types lol

However , the Sorc should probably have some more physicality (just a tad bit) to her instead of being 100% elemental… So that she also uses bits here and there of physical damage (Ice blades being one example, could have magic blades for some melee builds also but only having fire/lightning/physical feel to it rather than cold), she could also have some “magnet” spell where drops from the ground get gathered and then released back to do a larger amount of physical from up close, in fact that “Conduit” spell could do just that lol

And to be frank, the only thing I’d like to see is some addition of utility instead of just “pure” forms of damage output

Speaking of which: the lightning spear (Yondu thingy) is by far the most obvious example, i.e. does literally nothing except pure damage in great/er amount, would like it see do something else, like reduce resist (or even steal some and temporarily give back to the Sorc), just ANYTHING, other than being a “just another” weird “nuke”

And yes, there should be spells that do a single-target nuke damage but those should probably be SPECCED into doing such a thing and for a certain type/stuff so that builds diversify down further

Yes, definitely.

It would be very cool if the D4 Sorc would use Arcane Magic.

I thought it would be a cool idea if the Sorcs Unique Class System would be the Transmutation System, which would allow her to change the element of a skill, …

… aka Fire Hydra - Lightning Hydra - Frost Hydra - Arcane Hydra… or Fire Bolt - Frost Bolt - Lightning Bolt - Magic Missile… or Fireball - Glacial Spike - Ball Lightning - Arcane Orb.

Sort of as a (semi) permanent choice.

It would totally fit her theme as a master of the arcane and the elements.

That way, you don’t even have to add additional skills to the skill tree.

It would make sense to have notable differences between sorcerer and wizard, so they are clearly of different arts. The sorcerer should have darker and sinister magic, even if it uses the same elements as the wizard.

In occult literature, sorcerers are black magicians while magis and wizards are of the light.

The best that you could hope for imo, is that they add another mage class that utilizes arcane. The sorceress is a member of the Zann Esu Clan, a clan whose members focus on the studies and usage of elemental magic instead of arcane.
