World PVP toggle and Duel feature D4

Invasions could be interesting. Actually, I think the whole covenant thing from Souls could work really well inside the Fields of Hatred, also as a balancing measure.

Like, if a solo player tries to turn in the shard ritual, and 8 people are waiting there to gank that player… well, 7 players from the Covenant of Whatever are summoned to even the odds. Or the other way around if the people turning in shards are the majority.

Social engineering is the art of manipulating people through varies forms of communication. I’m new to this discussion thread, but you’re making the claim that PvP is the fun BECAUSE of games like Dark Souls and Elden Ring when those games are fundamentally different from Diablo.

Diablo is a hack-and-slash game where massacring the enemy is the fun and Dark Souls/Elden Ring/God of War uses that telegraphed combat system where you have to recognize patterns that just draw out fights.

Now, that said, I do occasionally mess with PvP in games like WoW, but that’s because there’s meaningful rewards to get out of it. I don’t like PvP just for the sake of destroying other players.

It is paramount that there are zero power-based rewards for PvP. People should PvP because they find it fun, not for any other reasons.

What’s that got to do with world pvp…?

It’s not hard to include abilities that make for interesting pvp fights. If they don’t pvp won’t be fun at all. And pvp is already in the game they are obviously already designing pvp to be fun. I’m saying pvp is fun if it’s made to be fun. Not because DS and ER exist. This is a mischaracterization of my argument I didn’t say this. You’re putting words in my mouth.

So how is this reason to not include world pvp?

Maybe you don’t but I’m pretty sure most pvp players like pvp mainly for this reason. Testing your skill against another player.

Many of the mechanisms that makes combat fun in PvE are the same that makes them fun in PvP.
D4 combat in general could certainly learn things from Souls games.

Yeah, no matter if we like PvP or not, Blizzard decided to have PvP, so if PvP is not fun, that is a problem regardless of World PvP existing or not.

I personally hate Souls games, but I guess I’m in the minority here.

Like most PvP games, it’s less about skill and just following the meta with each patch.

Not really accurate for Souls where skills can easily beat meta. However, even with worse balancing, if everyone blindly follow the “meta” you are left with skills being the main factor again.
The place where skills isnt much of a factor is in world PvP. Which if course also means it isnt much of a factor in Souls invasions. But that doesnt take skill away from more organized PvP.

There’s meta, there’s skill and there’s personal preference. All will come into play for each individual player.

There will always be meta in pvp honestly it’s smart to follow it if you want to be competitive.

Ideally the devs will make multiple builds on multiple classes viable. 2 to 3 builds for each class would be great but it will likely be 1 or 2. It’s not easy to balance this stuff so if they can make 2 builds on each class viable I would be pretty happy.

The rest of the builds will still be great for pve I’m sure.

Just like your very own posts, only person that think your whining matters is you

And any REAL PvP player would be playing a game designed purely for PvP and not be demanding that a game that was not really designed to be PvP to be made into a PvP game

Oh Steve, honey. Did no one tell you? Pvp IS in Diablo 4.

There’s this entire mode called the fields of hatred which mean actually there are entire areas of the game DEDICATED to pvp! Pve players won’t even be able to go inside hahaha!

They also mention pvp EVERY single update because they love pvp so much and want to show how much pvp is going to be in the game. And therefore, how the game actually IS designed to be made into a pvp game.

There’s also going to be loads of skills that you thought were for pve, but they’re not, they were designed for pvp and are going to be balanced for pvp. In fact EVERY SKILL in the ENTIRE GAME will likely be balanced for pvp, it’s going to be wonderful

I know but I still say real PvP players play games that are purely PvP and not have to have it added to other games because there are wannabe PvP players that can’t handle real PvP
Look at you, PvP is being added and it’s STILL not good enough has to be nothing but PvP

Sigh, if only you could actually play the game at a competent level to be good at pvp you might not feel the need to come and attack pvp players. I feel sorry for you

And I feel sorry for a so called PvP player that has to have games changed because he can’t PvP
I didn’t buy the game for PvP, I bought it for the campaign but that is apparantly beyond your comprehension
and still have to cry like a baby because PvP isn’t everywhere, You want to PvP everywhere go buy a PvP game like Doom, overwatch, etc

Lol and you think these toxic troll comments are going to convince Blizz not to put it in the game? HAH. Ok bud. You’ve said the same thing 3 times now, I’m not a “real pvp player” have you got anything useful to add to the post or are you just here to remind me how toxic pve players are when they seem to think it’s the pvp players, yet tons of you come into pvp posts to sh!t on pvp players. In my experience actually because of Blizz forums, pve players are easily the most little ragey kids who throw their toys out the pram every tiny little mention of even a breeze of pvp, you have to come to pvp posts and sh!t all over them.

So Blizz, all those devs that think pvp players are toxic, please take notes on your so called “beloved” pve players who apparently are so much nicer people, and look how they conduct themselves on these forums.

Do they even deserve to have any influence on pvp?

No they clearly don’t.

Thanks for proving my point and reminding me why I come to the forums to fight for pvp in the first place.

What.

 :upside_down_face:

if there was ever a game that needed a pvp mode it would be Harvest Moon imagine slapping around your enemies with a cow or tossing the family dog at them

Here’s the problem, the moment you add PvP to a PvE game, you have to balance for PvP, which usually screws over PvE. Franly they should allow PvP, but not bother to do any balancing for it. Just balance the PvE side where necessary and let PvP be the wild west of OP and broken builds.

On the open world player will always try to duel at the area that they’re advantageous at. A long range class will try to camp at vast open areas, a short range caster class will stand at small enclosed corners, a long range caster class will stay nearby narrow paths, a close combat character will stand by the middle road or a split connecting two paths or a bridge to blindside you.

These are few stereotypes that you’ll face at the open world PvP, and you fail to give a good reason to accept their duel offer blindly beyond “skills” that was never gauged or measured.
If these players want to duke it out with anyone, they stop offering you duels at advantageous spots and face you at the designated grounds that already exist in the game. That is instead of trusting their overpowered gear that they paid good money, instant opt-out or instant escape macros. I heard about and faced many of these people back in D2 and have no interest letting them in.

You have to convince Blizzard to put an imbalanced version of the PvP in the game first to claim that.
Open world PvP has its shortcomings such as some abusive exploits and macros that they need to shut down if they were to allow this. PvP ain’t gonna be balanced for overworld in any measure rightfully as there will be overpowering skills that can cheese anything by the progress of PvE.

D4 already have PvP and use this as a benchmark for powergrowth of player. If it has active PvP that allures you by choice or not, then power has to be balanced around it at least. As a result you won’t have trillions of damage as PvP duel pace can only be so fast.

This will be the case as most isometric ARPGs have a scenery of rock-paper-scissor in their PvP scenes. They use different models such as voluntary team play or diverse equipment and gameplay to curb its short vision and bad randomization features.

Zone based PvP has a potential to remove or mitigate all of this by; treating some overpowered skills to work differently under the zones and handle terrain generation with create different chokes, jukes and environmental hazards to play around for a chance to ditch your chasers.
When your skills work differently, the monsters spawn at those zones will have their threat level improved instead of being cannon fodders that you can utilize their aggro against certain builds. That means you can not cobble a build for PvP purposes only at all which makes you sacrifice some power which is perfectly fine.

It’s a moot point how such skills work when killstreaking player get marked on everyone’s map and manage to run out of the zone after that. Certainly it will not be a fair duel once you face the kill streaking player outside of the designated zone.
Developers clearly want to gate this imbalanced PvP option behind a gate when you show your skill in the zones and OP simply asks for it to be handed to him freely.
