Will there be a change of font type for Diablo 4?

To bring the font type back something similar to Diablo 2, rather than what it is now seeing from beta testing videos that is all over the net? The san serif type feels too proper for the game, though it help with readability but just doesnt seem to sit right with the feels of the game.

You sound like one of those Rings of Power/ Witcher Blood Origin Series supporters

it’s just like when people ask them to go back to the roots and make the game dark again, the traditional font is a piece of that pie and excluding it just shows lack of insight, detail, and priorities.

Diablo dingbat font or, at best, comic sans.

Sorry, I am not nearly mentally disturbed enough to know what you’re talking about. LOL

The fonts are very well used:

  • The Diablo font or a serif font for some elements
  • A sans serif font for tooltips, stats, etc.

No need to go back 20 years…

 :face_vomiting:

I really hope you’re not a graphic designer.

you dont like what originally made the content famous and change said content thinking it will retain the popularity it garnered during the original content. thus upsetting all the fans of the original content, and said changed content is not good enough to bring any new users of the changed content.

Its not just the font, the user interface, inventory and skill windows, battle pass etc all look like garbage. Mr Lama was spot on, D4 UI looks like something lifted from a cheap mobile game.

yea I felt the font played a really big part in the early games. Looking at the san serif font for items drops did feel very diablo like.

Also, dont bother with the trolls, they just want attention, hence making such pointless comments.

Nope, but I used to report UX/UI to developers for their consideration and their (joking) response to any font-based/readability concern was “change it to comic sans!” so, naturally, that’s my suggestion now.

Non-jokingly, I used to mock a fellow school board member for their use of Comic Sans MS but then I found out it is a font that is dyslexia-friendly and then I found out he’s dyslexic and then I felt a bit… :poop:.

Sometimes font choices are made for reasons people without learning disabilities cannot understand.

Should be the main concern imo.
Use easily readable fonts for the important stuff. Use “Diablo wannabe gothic” fonts for stuff that is only there for the looks.

Or do the Pentiment thing, and let players choose between the two fonts?

To be fair, that is exactly what Blizzard make these days.

The Diablo font used in the Darkening of Tristram event is what the OP is likely looking for. That font is much easier on the eyes than the Ariel font used in D3. Really wish we could get a toggle for that to be permanent if we want.

They have passed on my suggestion that we get an option to change the font and/or the font size, so I am working on it through social media…

A really interesting subject.

I read some “researches” 10 or 15 years ago about this topic (I had to work to and with some dyslectic students).

The result, to sum up, the problem is not the shape of the letters but the space between the letters.

To be concise, the best fonts to choose are:

  • Sans serif
  • Monospaced

This way, a dyslexic user will have much less difficulty reading the texts, the letters being “independent” of each other.

Crazy idea: it’s possible to like some classic aspects of Diablo and want to see them in the new game without actually wanting to go play a 20 year old game with all the aspects that aged like milk

Also, D2R is a terrible remaster.
