Malthael is my favorite lore character.
As such, I’m saddened to have to kill him at some point (noob here)
I know angels can be ressurected, so maybe there is a chance?
Or perhaps a playable reaper class?

While it’s not impossible, I don’t see Malthael returning, at least not as he was before. Unlike Demons whose resurrection only result in a change in appearance (as such they’d be the same demon with only a different look), angels resurrection result in a change in identity; the only known exception to this was Tyrael, as after he destroyed the World Stone, his physical body was destroyed, but he resurrected two decades later as the same angel. However, I doubt the same would happened for Malthael if he was resurrected, he’d likely be a different angel with the only similarity to his former self being their essence.
On the other hand, if Malthael’s essence were corrupted and perhaps demonized just as Izual was (which wouldn’t be impossible considering Malthael destroyed the Black Soulstone in order to absorb the Prime Evil’s essence into himself), then it’s very possible that Malthael may return as well as a corrupted angel and undergo a demon’s resurrection just as Izual did.
Unlikely as the playable characters and classes in Diablo have always been Human/Nephalem. As such a reaper, and by extension angel, class wouldn’t fit with that as they would lack the demonic essence that humans possess; unless you’re talking about a class that could draw forth the power of angelic beings, including reapers, and make it their own.
Thanks for the response
Yes, I did mean that.
Do humans even follow the reapers?
The reapers hate humans for sure.
As far as I know of, I don’t think there are Humans who worhip or follow reapers. However Diablo 4 takes place decade(s) after Diablo 3, so honestly for all we know a crazy and weird cult could’ve risen up to spread the word of Malthael with the goal of ending all of humanity.
As for Reapers hating Humans. Well that wouldn’t be much of an issue imo, as most (if not nearly all) demons hate humans, yet it doesn’t stop humans from worshipping and/or following demons in order to gain power.
Aww.
I think the reapers are very very cool, and would love playing one.
Technically the angels do not resurrect, they are reborn.
From the Crystal Arc sooner or later a new Archangel of Wisdom will be born, if he calls himself Malthael again or adopts another name, we will see…
It is also possible that his spirit is still corrupted, as Izual is, in that case it is possible that he could return (summoned), but in the end as I said before a new Archangel of Wisdom will be reborn.
All classes in the game are and will be human and the Viz-Jaq’taar are better than a reaper.
Being honest here?
An Arch Angel can never be truly corrupted unlike lesser angels, they can only go mad or find absolute disdain for the heroic side.
Tyrael’s return implies that there is a method of revival for Arch Angels, under certain circumstances.
The souls Malthael consumed burst out of him as well as the soul stone fragments. And as he fell he slowly disintegrated, implying his angelic energy had been fully depleted and he was undergoing crystal return, which is when the vestiments of an angel return to the crystal arch to be repurposed as a newborn angel, this works differently with Arch Angels because their essence never truly disappears or can be corrupted, only recycled into a new form.
Regular angels or Seraphim can be recycled but when there essence is corrupted they simply deplete and die like any other trash mob.
So either Malthael returns like Tyrael did, or his essence is repurposed and somehow his conscience from his previous form travels to that new body. Other than that, you’re just gonna have to deal with a lookalike Aspect of Wisdom/Death.
And if you want to play as a Reaper, Seraphim, Arch Angel, Demon, Lesser Evil, Evil, Or Prime Evil.
Petition to Blizzard to make a standalone spinoff of Diablo where you can play either side of the Angels or Demons to learn and understand their perspective. It would be a cool Diablo game, not totally related to Diablo himself though.
They actually can become corrupted. For example, Malthael’s original plan (or so Balzael believed it to be) was to leave the Black Soulstone in the High Heavens long enough for the Angiris Council to become corrupted enough so that they would vote for Sanctuary’s destruction. And until Tyrael and the Horadrim stole the black soulstone from the High Heavens, it was indeed corrupting the High Heavens, including the crystal arch (as it spawned a corrupted angel), as well as the angiris council members (Auriel herself admitted to this). That said, it likely takes a significant amount more time and effort to corrupt an archangel in comparison to an angel.
While that can be taken as an implication. The series itself simply treats Tyraels revival as an extreme oddity.
No, even if an angel had suffered from corruption, their death will lead to them being replaced by a new angel. The only exception is if the corruption was great enough to grant them major demonic traits, in which the Angel would now respawn in Hell like any other demonspawn (Izual is an example of this).
More than likely Malthael will simply be replaced by a new Archangel. Only way he’ll return is if he suffered great corruption (in which he’ll be a demon) or Malthael had designed a contingency plan in the case that’s defeated in order to assure his eventual return. If neither occurs, then Malthael’s gone.
