Just saw some footage from a blizzcon, and im a little worried about mmo style diablo. Im wondering if anyone knows if the rifts will remain ? would rather play solo or with friends rather then open world multiplayer type stuff eating up mobs
Hopefully it wont have GRifts. Too early to tell.
It will have Key Dungeons though, which sounds a bit like Rifts. Or more like PoE maps.
I would prefer maps like PoE or something like that⦠i donāt like timed events tbh⦠even tho i liked GRifts in general, i donāt like the āgotta-go-fastā element of itā¦
In general i would prefer a more strategic-slower paced end-game contentā¦
ps. I liked the World Bosses so farā¦
GR I do not think so, other types of end game features most definitely.
This appears to be a shot at the D3 GRs.
What do we look for in a Diablo end-game? What would we be excited to play? When we started thinking about this, like Ok, varied content. Thatās critical. I donāt want to be just doing just one thing over and over again in end-game. Making powerful, unique builds as a core part of Diablo; and we need content that encourage that level of strategic depth; and honestly, player agency is super important. Random dungeons are awesome. I love them; but I donāt want to just feel like I am reacting to what the game is giving me. I donāt want to feel like I am on rails. So how are we doing this? - Zaven
Also this:
For those of you who have played Greater Rifts in Diablo III, you might know that there is like a timer there; and one of the side effects of doing things like that and we have learned a lot about this, is that it makes you want to rush through, skip things, you start to get very specific about what you want to kill and what you want to do. - Zaven
So, to start with, the shared world concept doesnāt affect dungeons. Dungeons continue to be private from start to finish, supporting you and optionally up to 3 other players ā which is our maximum party size; and what about the campaign then, because the campaign storyline is of course going to send you all around the continent, into these private dungeons, but also to parts of the open world.
You can choose to play through the entire game solo ā from campaign all the way to end-game ā and that will be just as valuable and successful as a way to approach the game, as someone who might choose to group up for the large majority of it. - Angela
Again:
Angela: So we are not going to support an Offline Mode, but as I said before, nothing in Diablo IV is going to require partying up. You can play Solo, and dungeons are private, and campaign quest areas will remain private.
The only things that I have seen that would require a group is the world boss (unless they change that) and the fields of hearted, unless you can fight off the other players that will go hostile on you. However, no one needs to go into this area if they do not want to.
Diablo, as a franchise, has always struggled with end-game content. Itās old enough to fall into the old-school video game solution of simply repeating the gameās story with harder difficulties - the old Normal/Nightmare/Hell trick that endured even into D3. (Anyone else remember clearing Act III battlements on Hell difficulty over and over?) Rifts, greater rifts, bounties, keywardens, ubers⦠these were all welcome additions to D3 and offered something beyond repeating the story.
I have no idea what D4 will have for end game content. The problem (and fun!) with games like Diablo is the importance of loot/gear. When you reach the āend-gameā interest will only be maintained if there is more to strive for. Harder and harder content requires better and better rewards. Power-creep starts becoming an issue when players demand more and more and itās a fine line to maintain without going off the rails, like D3 has.
Just look at Diablo 3ās path of item-creepā¦
Legendaries
Ancient Legendaries
Primal Ancient Legendaries
Augmented Primal Ancient Legendaries
Now, having all these tiers of gear doesnāt have to be a bad thing, except when theyāre created for the sole solution of addressing player boredom. End-game content doesnāt have to be bigger-better-faster in order to maintain interest.
D4 could offer more cosmetics, in-game trophies, player housing, clan housing, clan achievements, clan resources, unlockable classes, stash space⦠the list is only restricted by imagination. This could supplement things like better gear, stat points, and skill points, without allowing those things to grow out of hand.
I hope Blizzard is able to come up with something interesting for end-game. I have every confidence they will, even if it isnāt included at launch.
I seriously hope not.
At most what youāve seen were some activities that players can do out in the open world of Diablo 4, these include freeing camps/small towns, pvp, world bosses, etc. However from what weāve been told, these arenāt the sole endgame activities for Diablo 4, as Diablo 4 will also have dungeon based endgame activities thatās designed for small parties/solo play (one such dungeon type would be key dungeons).
With that said, I still hope that Diablo 4 will have a private mode option. That seems to be the better middle ground than what they currently have planned.
If you watched either Blizzcons and kept up with the quarterly updates you know the last part isnāt going to happen.
If youāre talking about my comment regarding private mode, then I can say that I donāt know if itās going to happen or not as Blizzard can change their mind regarding it. Wouldnāt be the first time they changed their mind regarding something.
No the OP. It was clear, outside of rare public events, we wont be competing for mobs, as we will on see someone every once and a while in passing.
From what I remember is that in D4 there will be getting something like a keystone that will upgrade a dungeon that will make it harder than it normally is. Think of Dungeons with affixes from PoE maps. Donāt know how many affixes the endgame dungeons will have but that is the general idea IIRC.
D4 has keyed dungeon is based on D3 Greater Rift but better.
Still could have rifts of some sort. All we know is keyed dungeons and that they want a more robust endgame than one main activity.
Yeah, I know that there are multiple endgame activities for D4, but the keyed dungeon is the closest GR feature that the topic creator is asking for.
Right. My apologies in that case.
IDK but i hope so.
Greater Rifts without loot are totally a welcome endgame option to do when you arenāt into loot farming as a side jam to test builds.
Like, D2 lacks a space to test builds, bc clearing faster isnāt a big deal vs being able to clear. F/e idk a barb can clear hell P8, and a hdin can smoke it 20x faster, both can clear. when that hdin gets old bc its all over youtube and not your own plan or thinking, you dont have a place to test not meta w/o GRās or some very hard endboss that only a few builds can pass.
Where with a GR system it would be barb is at GR 50 and hdin is GR 200 or w/e. I mean the first step is to get loot hunting solo the major part of the game with quests, then add in greater rifts. Making a game about movement mounts and stuff is def not the right way to go about a loot hunter w/o anti-run mechanics and such so its looking like a greater rifting game and no loot hunt already.
