Why won't U buy D2R?

That question was specifically answered. 21:9 is supported. Seriously, go watch the the Deep Dive video, and then the Q&A. So many people asking questions that have official answers.

I will jump all over D4 when it is released some time this decade.
I will also continue to play D3 seasons, I still have a few personal goals.
But I really want to try D2R in HD, mostly because I want to look at the world.

But then I saw some interview…maybe it was not officially from the dev. I think it was MrLlama who had asked about it and they said it is going to be supported, but they don’t know how they are handling it yet (due to monster detection), they may have black bars. I call that, not supported.

If you can confirm somewhere that they do indeed have it supported without black bars, then I stand corrected and am very happy to hear that.

The original game didn’t create environment that far off your character, so essentially they are running into an issue where the environment and monsters haven’t been generated yet.

You will also encounter they same issue D3 had/has, where monsters were visible to you, but you aren’t visible to them, yet your projectiles can’t collide due to distance cap, yet visually they pass throu.

Right, which is why I am saying that I don’t believe it is confirmed to be truly supported without black bars, yet ImmortalKing is claiming that I am wrong.

it is not a deal breaker for me if 21:9 isn’t (fully) supported, but man would it be awesome if they could get it work. To my recollection there was no problems in PoE with it. Don’t recall if Grim Dawn had it or not. I think so.

Here it is:

Thanks for that. I did watch that already (live) and hopefully that means full support, but I know other games sometimes say they support 21:9, but actually have black bars or some method of making it not truly ultrawide. I had heard this was not decided internally yet. Hopefully that is not the case here.

I’m probably not going to buy it because I kind of prefer the current d2 graphics, its nostaligic and doesn’t bother me… It was always more about game play and I’m personally sick of seeing the same engine regurgitated graphics, it looks like every other game out there so far and it just doesn’t impress me… Secondly, if they don’t allow modding I just couldn’t even be bothered to play it, I play path of diablo occasionally and the quality of life/changes they’ve made brought more life to the game… The item changes green dude has made, bringing up bad uniques/runewords to a more useable level really just made it more fun, plus the lively community and the ongoing trading… Or the skill revamps hes added, really just round the game out a bit more.

I’d likely consider buying it if my wife is interested in playing at some point, she refuses to play d2 with me currently because of the graphics so i’d definitely consider compromising just to have some adventures with her…

Hmm, I’ll maybe see what they do for a post-release patch. If they decide to do a bit of re-balancing then I might be more interested.

I already own D2 and have played it to death so it’s difficult to justify buying it at £35.

I hope I get in the technical test to see what the servers are like, the live D2 servers are quite laggy even on a solid modern connection.

They have done an excellent job of reviving the game from the looks of it but I’m not sure that it would be worth it. I just can’t imagine investing that much time into it these days.

Honestly, I am almost tempted to buy it just because the cinematics are so cool in D2 but I’ll probably just watch them on youtube instead.

the new visuals is a downgrade in places…

the shared stash is welcome though.

not sure yet.

The only reason I could think of not buying D2R would be fear.

FEAR.

Fear of that Amazon peering out of the screen at me. My god.

My reason is fear too… FEAR!

I’ve already posted this on another topic, but the reasons remain the same:

It seems extremely unlikely I will not buy D2R.

However, there is pretty much never a reason to pre-order games.
So for people who are afraid Blizzard wont deliver, just wait…

The answer is in the OP;
You have to become a fan of D2 first, before an urge to return to it is possible.

Why wouldn’t I buy it? That’s a better question.

I never played D2 when it was released, and when I bought it last year, I simple could not play it on my system. I could not find a resolution that worked well for me, so I just moved on, and figured I’d just have to never enjoy it.

D2R’s updated graphics mean I can actually play it now without getting a splitting headache. Honestly cannot wait; it is much more my type of RPG than D3 is, even though I dig D3 as well.

Very few games are interesting for me these days, but D2R is certainly one of them. Only another reforge disaster would prevent me from buying this as I have wanted a remake of this game for such a long time.

So far the game looks amazing, but I will never trust Blizzard to deliver these days though so I have to remain sceptical.

If there is no ladder only runewords in SP and no ubers plus a rational way to spawn Dclone in SP, I might reconsider buying it… or maybe wait until it is available.

From what I have heard it will support mods tho, So when it get the Plugy treat I will most likely buy it (cause it enables what I want). But I read on plugy features one of it is making maps generate randomly in SP like MP, I don’t like that :).

Either it is there by default or by plugy, I will buy it if these things are on SP. I love the long SSF grind to get to double grief etc (plus zero ping) …but the grind feels empty if there is no Ladder runewords and no charms…I wanna feel OP at the end.

I played D2 / LoD when they came out. It was okay, and I probably spent a couple of months with it, but then moved onto other things. I never considered it that remarkable at the time. So, I have no interest in paying the price of a brand new game for a re-skin of a game I only mildly enjoyed over 20 years ago.

I won’t PREORDER. Whether I’ll buy later or not depends on 2 things:

  • the price (it’s not worth anywhere near $70 in my currency considering what it just is).
  • level of modability. If mods can’t be recreated as complete as they are in the OG game, then I’m not touching it.

I don’t anticipate buying it anytime in 2021 or earlier than halfway through 2022. I wanna give fellow modders time to recreate their little masterpieces, especially MedianXL.

…I know some who aren’t interested in D4, but have already decided they are getting D2R!

What quality of life changes or improvements to modernize the experience are you hoping for?

Personally I am hoping that they keep the quality of life changes relatively minimal, and don’t give into some who already want to axe some of the things that made D2 what it was. Boss runs, extremely hard to hit level cap, extremely limited skill respecializing, insanely hard to find items and runes, etc. These things are just part of the way the game was designed and - for better or worse - very much play a part in making D2 what it was. So far, I think it’s smart to keep those changes minimal - especially since the original engine is running underneath it all.

It is, after all, D2 Resurrected… it’s meant to target and retain some of the players who liked D2 even more than modern Diablo games.
