Why no start from Median XL instead of 1.14D?

You guys wanna start from 1.14D or from Median XL ??

Because one is official and the other isn’t. That’s my guess.

Median isn’t D2. It’s a completely different game running over the D2 engine.

The point of a remaster is staying faithful to the original.

Yep… Median XL would be a HUGE departure from Diablo 2.

There are aspects from other mods I would like to see brought in, like some buffing of underutilized skills, but Median XL isn’t that faithful to the source materials.

I’ve played many many hours in vanilla diablo 2 but since I’ve found out Median XL I can’t imagine going back to the original. Official d2 looks so boring for me compared to this mod.

Which is why I was hoping for a moddable D2R client. Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be the case.

I’ll get D2R either way as long as they add some QoL improvements, but it’s going to be such a waste not being able to port over the overhaul mods.

According to Blizzard it is moddable.

They could be lying. I sadly wouldn’t be too surprised if Blizzard lied these days. But at least that is what they are saying.

If true, hopefully we will see Median XL etc. ported over.

Have you got a source for that information please? Not being a d*ck, that’s the news I was waiting for. Would like to confirm it though.

My source is this: xxhttps://www.gamestar.de/artikel/diablo-2-resurrected-infos,3367124.html

German isn’t my native language, but the above should translate to this:

Can I carry over saves and mods?

No, there won’t be any form of data transfer between D2 and D2R. If you don’t want to part from your saves then you need to stick to the original. Also mods only work with the original. D2R doesn’t support mods from the original game.
But in the future it’ll possible to develop mods for D2R. However the developers noted that the possibilities will be different to the original. Mods that change the game’s basic data won’t exist. For sure visual tweaks (will be possible) or maybe new paths (ways).

That to me sounded sketchy.

That means you can’t use existing D2 mods with the new D2 client.

That doesn’t mean new mods can’t me made for it.

The official Diablo twitter account.

Twitter

Interview clearly states you can’t have any mods that alter data files (aka overhauls).

Can’t find that a post about mods on twitter, will keep digging later. Thank you.

Well that’s not wrong. There will be mod support. But for visual tweaks only.

Guess we need to wait for additional confirmation because of conflicting information.

They only said that in regard to cheating online afaik.
I havent seen them say anywhere you could not alter data files?

But yeah, more exact confirmation would be good. Hard to truly believe Blizzard doing the right thing these days

Probably because no one asked specifics, apart from Gamestar

Full moddability would also mean fully working offline mode because the client must locally store all required files to run the game. The two things go hand in hand.

Which will most likely be the case. Having an authentication DRM is one thing, but the engine is still good ol’ D2. Shouldn’t change much of the structure of the programs. I do believe modability could be more limited of course. Which isn’t that bad, the old client will be left intact for the more ambitious mods.
