Why is no one talking about the Bone Shield?

Firstly let me say that the game looks beautiful. A lot of the design choices look amazing and I can’t wait to get my hands on this game.

Now, most people are nit-picking the faces. It seems they gave +20 years to the chars since the game is 20 years old. Maybe they wanted to make aging chars to reflect the aging fanbase. I’m not as concerned about the faces because 99% of the time they are covered by helmets anyway.

That being said, the Amazon is strange given the voice acting (which the devs confirmed will not change). The Amazons voice lines sound like a spunky teenager … very odd coming from a 50-something battle hardened warrior. And the choice to make the Assassin Asian is strange given her American accent … I guess they wanted to make a char for the huge Asian-American fanbase.

But come on, what is the deal with the Bone Shield?? Have you seen this? The bone shield is one of the most iconic items from D2. Both the icon and the model are beautiful, depicting a shield made entirely of stark white bone. Even in diablo 3 they recreated the iconic design quite well.

The model they came up with for D2R is a kind of rounded piece of wood with 3 yellow skulls tacked on to the front. WHAAAAAT?? #notmyboneshield

Good point, the art design on it looks weird

Great, now I have to go watch the gameplay videos for the 100th time, thanks.

You can see it clearly in the shot where they show the Sorc in the A1 Inner Cloister, right before you go down into the Catacombs Lv1. They show her standing in the original game with a normal bone shield, then they switch to D2R and you can see the new one.

There is a youtube video called " Diablo 2: Resurrected - Full Gameplay - Long version" where you can see this at 0:21

Now that I look at it the original looks yellow, so it may be a topaz-socketed bone shield making it yellow actually. But the design is still quite unfortunate.

Wow you’re totally right, I would very much like them to make it closer to the original.

In ClassicD2, the bone/grim look is iconic for many chars.

I fully agree the bone shield needs to be stark while in it’s original form.

They also seems to make the necy look more ‘grey’ in his armor rather than a black and white in the basic armors. I was reserving judgement to see more pics…

You sure it isn’t lidless wall?

Hilarious! I was just typing this as I saw your comment…I agree. I think it’s lidless.

I also think on lidless though, the skulls are more visible in the inventory screen, and the one in-game looks ugly with smaller skulls.

You are right I think its a lidless. My bad.

The lidless looks awful lol

Uniques displayed on character are going to look different because it’s a new feature. Some of the designs may not translate well. I’m thinking of Sigon’s shield not matching the rest of the set, for example.

link? i still haven’t seen what hes talking about

Diablo 2: Resurrected - Full Gameplay - Long version - YouTube 25 seconds in

oh wow haven’t seen this vid. thanks.

that looks ok. i dont see the cross on there.

I just noticed that… I prefer the original.
Update: I watched all the released content so far and this is not the bone shield, there is a small clip with necro holding the bone shield. Watch here 06:53 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vFgB0JLVYU

I am most looking forward to the Sazabi set models. Those always looked super cool in the icons.

Honestly, I’m more concerned with the Amazon and Assassin.

Their legs move independently from their body.
