Why is Diablo 4 base game $70?

As I said, not really comparable for a number of reasons including the size of the market.

If D4 bombs they aren’t raising the price to make up for the lack of market i terest to recoup costs. I don’t thing market size really plays that big of a role in an industry as large as gaming. Maybe for a super niche game of a super niche subject matter.

Even with the size of the market being much larger, the price could be even cheaper. There were also other games that didn’t have to add the extra RAM or some that added rumbke pack for N64 that didn’t cost $80-90.

It’s still an incredible deal compared to how much buying power $70 had 25 years ago.

Market size makes a massive difference.
Being able to sell 10 million instead of 1 million, or similar, is nearly not comparable.

Agreed. My point just was that there was other reasons than because they were enjoying a game.

What the other person fails to realize is a lot of us in the Diablo community that whaled in immoral where more or less forced to make new accounts due to the negative orb balance due to buying orbs via a third party what I’ve noticed over the years and I’ve played since d1, alot of you spend more time trolling in the forums then you do playing the game. Granted d4 isnt out yet even when it is these same people will be trolling the forums rather then playing the game. Its a mental addiction.

Untrue. Even though I stopped playing HoTS, I still remember my Rainbow Unicorn, Kaiju Diablo, Mecha Tassadar and etc that I bought last time. :sunglasses:

Some cosmetics were too good to be forgotten.

Can we go back? Let’s go back.

lol I’m convinced this is Wyatt Cheng’s sock puppet account and he’s on the other side giggling.

I feel bad for this generation of gamers. They’ll never get to experience how rewarding video games use to be. The paid cosmetics option takes away from people who put their heart into these games. Personally I think it’s time to step away from AAA games. The only companies offering traditional video games are indie developers. Project’s like Baldur’s Gate 3 prove you don’t need a billion dollar publisher to create a AAA experience.

I seem to remember even nearly 20 years ago Guild Wars was $60 retail. What is so absurd about $70 for a modern game?

Also, people comparing Grim Dawn to Diablo… please stop. I tried Grim Dawn. The name says it all, it is a grim game with grim multiplayer experience. Sorry.

LOL! Where do you live? You can put a 1 in front of that where I live as in 1.2 million $

It’s actually quite a good game but was it never meant for multiplayer.

That must make me ancient since I am almost 52. You are still a baby lol

Tell that to my cracking and popping

$70 is fine IF the base game includes all relevant content at release. It is fine if there is no other cash grab. However, they are charging for battle passes seasonally.

There’s many free to play games out there with microtransactions that support their development. cough Overwatch 2, as an example ; or how about CS:GO which even at this moment has 1.1 million concurrent users (but we won’t get into their predatory loot box system).

This is pure Bobby K. greed. People have to vote with their money and refuse to hand it over so easily. Even if I had orange-man-golden-toilet money, I can’t patronize a business that engages in these practices.

Which they already voted with their money and sent a strong message about what the majority wants.

Again and again, you completely miss the point and only want to “be right”. It is free-to-play. See the difference? They didn’t charge $70 for the game. Amazing how that works, eh? This D4 scheme is a ripoff.

Actually, most MMO with monthly subscription with in-game cash shop charge the base game for $60 out there and people were actually supporting it with their wallets.

Why would people treating that base game with $70 + BP as something new now? Is it because it is Blizzard?
