Why graphics look so dated? (specially MY character)

As the title says, why do the graphics look so dated ?, specially MY CHARACTER…

The world inside doesnt look nearly as bad, neither Tyrael, Leah or other NPCs.

But my character looks like it belongs in Playstation 1 graphics.

Im running it at max everything Fullscreen windowed, with RTX 3090, and 64 GB of DDR5, with 12900K. So hardware is not the issue.

Did Blizzard just dropped the ball hard on the characters itself ?

Btw, just trying the Wizard (which btw male wizard looks horrible as hell, thanks god we will be able to customize character creation a little bit); as i never really played it back in the time. To see if ill like the D4 Wizard, although i know D4 wizard will have more fire spells and none Arcane spells, it gives me an idea on some of the spells.

A game from 2012 do not care about 3090 gpus.

I know, what i mean is, that its not that my hardware cant handle max settings.

I am running everything on Ultra, and oh boy, the CHARACTER itself looks horrible, and extremely low res.

Whereas the world itself, mobs, spells and everything, have hold up MUCH MUCH better.

Wow is from 2004… And it looks 100x times better

Maybe post a screenshot? Let us see this bad horrible looking character.

I know mine look fine. Maybe your computer is too much. LOL

Here you go (cant post directly yet)

Here looks a little bit better with motion and all but still, the face is horrible, and the textures of the cloth armor is terrible

Edit.

Also look here, there is everyone looking good, and its not only the Cloth armor looking worse, even Adria looks better. Tyrael looks pretty good, the D4 wings in game look ok, Leah, Tyrael, Templar, the Hydra spell for reference, everything looks good.

Everything but the texture on my own armor, and its not only for cloth, same on my Crusader

Not really no. And wow has gotten updates since then.
For a game that is from 2012, what do you expect? It looks fine.

WoW is an MMORPG based on exploration and third person content.

Diablo 3 is an isometric aarpg.

Wow does indeed looks better

ht*ps://i.postimg.cc/tCq0mkbH/wow-better.jpg

But then lets compare it to SC2, there are no units who look this bad.

But then again, as ive been saying, its not D3 per se. But MY CHARACTER that looks terribad.

Is there a low res config for main character that im not aware or something ?

Looks normal to me. Guess I’m just used to it, I don’t notice. Been playing this game since 2012 myself.

*shrug

BTW.

Can people PLEASE learn to use the </> button to do this to links they cannot directly post:

WoW has gotten updates. D3 has not. Cause of monthly payments and expansions, they have more money to go around. For a game from 2012, D3 looks fine.
What you expect? To buy a 3090 and have some magically looking D3 all of a sudden, without any updates from the company itself?
If you want pretty looking games, go play some of the new ones.

Yeah, the video card isn’t going to fix it. If anything, it would probably make it even worse.

I run a 3060 here and have everything maxed out for settings and it plays fine and looks great.

The best I ever saw this game look was back when I had an older Dell that came with a 550Ti and supported 3D glasses.

D3 looks amazing in 3D, if you can get it to work still. I miss playing it like that, but it was demanding on that system at the time.

OP.

You could setup a profile for D3 in the nVidia settings and crank the card’s quality settings higher for the game. (those that the game itself doesn’t directly control). See if that helps.

My 3060 barely spins the fans when I play D3, but its a space heater when playing something like OW.

Didnt know. Now i do.

I never said that, i certainly didnt get the 3090 to play Diablo 3, my computer is about 1 year old very soon, and just recently launched diablo 3 to test some stuff out as i bought D4 recently. However pointed it out that i could easily play on max settings.

Aniways, i guess you cant tell the difference since youve been playing all along.

For someone that stopped playing in 2013 maybe (just shortly after ROS launch); to come back now, damn.

Characters look extremely dated

Ive seen its the textures.

Here is just hoping that some of the NEW in game items textures look better.

Same happened with Wow honestly. aside from of course the character models getting better textures. Even now if you were to equip Vanilla wow items, those look like total garbage. But the newer items look much better.

So maybe with newer gear, it improves.

You could play with the DSR settings, etc. But use it as a profile setting for the one game.

There are some card enhancements that may make the graphics look better simply with the graphic card settings. There is a scaling re-rendering filter, all kinds of extras. Typical settings though you can control through the game directly obviously.

FPS is another factor. Don’t bother running D3 higher than 100. No benefit at all really, in fact I cap mine to 60, despite having a 144hz monitor. Just uses less energy, runs the card cooler, etc. But keep in mind cards like the 4090 have issues where the game is drawing so little on the card that it actually causes the game to run poorly. Some people have had to force the card to run at a higher power level, just to make the game run smooth.

Its pretty bad that you end up at a point where the card is so powerful that it won’t kick in and actually run some of the older game titles because they don’t draw enough activity with their load.

Kinda like trying to move a quarry dumptruck with your car. You just don’t have enough HP. Or mass. lol

Ask Cyclops, rose colored vision can also make you see phases and blurred images. Take off the nostalgia rims and the image may have simply faded, obtained craquelure, or been hit with a pint of thinner.

Basically, things look how they look because of how you look at them.

You do know you are asking the equivalent of why doesn’t the show from 1956 have better graphics on my 8k TV, I have an 8K TV it should automatically just get better even though wide screen and higher resolution wasn’t available back then but thats no excuse for what is bad graphics now days

and comparing old games with the latest games is just a joke

Would you also expect a black and white show to automatically become colour because we have colour now

You also have the problem of D2R doesn’t have improved graphics over D2 mainly because you would have to rewrite the whole game to be able to use the better graphics and to put them in the game and then when you get the new Graphics card next year the game doesn’t have the latest in graphics because they weren’t around back then
thats why in computers it’s backward compatible so that when you upgrade all your programs don’t stop working

Wait what?

I think they clearly gave it better graphics with the face paint. For one thing the graphical update gave the game nearly 26gb of drive consuming space over the original what, 1GB with the expansions? A huge portion of that is primarily graphic texture update. And you can even compare original with updated in-game.

I’d say that D2R looks better graphically than even D3. It might not play any differently, but it looks a hell of a lot better.

What? Like the other guy said.

To break it down for you. Blizzard games are made so that the mass population can run them with minimal effort. They do this so that they can maximize the sales. This means that at launch of the game the required hardware on the minimum and recommended settings will be many years behind the current release graphics cards and cpus. For example I am currently running 1080p with a 960 gpu on max settings. It can handle it fine. Someone that want to play D3 on 1440p can easily play it on a 10 series card.

At the end of the day a 3090 or 4090 or 5090 or 1000000090 will not make D3 look better. The base game is set in stone. You literally can max out D3 on 4k on all settings with something far less then your over priced 3090.

I really don’t understand this question. It looks dated because it is 10 (Almost 11) years old. I mean when people say dated they mean it looks old, 10 years is old for a game.

You won’t see the true beauty of Diablo 3 until you kill a rainbow goblin and enter Whimsydale.
